Tried to part ex 2 s/s for a semi-auto last summer with Sportsman Gun Centre. They told us to leave them in the car because they couldn't shift them, but they were a Baikal and a AYA. We'll keep them for clays I guess, still fun to shoot.

Friend of mine is trying to get me to use his OU 28 bore. Says I will love it. I’ve been resisting and have probably had my best season ever with my Aya 2.
ive enjoyed shooting so much this season I can’t bring myself to use any other gun
Daft to swap guns if you shoot well with 1 you got.

I been trying a 28 bore, just can not get on with it. Pigeons laugh at me..

My dad has a side by side 12 bore that he bought back in the 80’s, it’s been in a sleeve in the gun cabinet ever since and never had a cartridge through it.
He seems to think it ought to be worth a bob or two, I think he might be disappointed 🙄

Depending on which end of Lincs you are I could recommend a couple of gun shops who would value it for you, but both will be full of bog standard side by sides that are worth a couple of hundred at best.

Failing that, look on Guntrader for the most similar one you can find.

There are plenty of people who don't have a Fleur de Lys proofed gun and so have stocked up on lead ammunition, but who knows where we will be in 5 years time.

I have a Beretta side by side I use for game shooting sometimes, they are lovely guns and feel more special to use IMO - its not as good as my O/U but that adds to the interest / skill required ...... I like a challenge !

depends what it is but they can be worthless - extremely expensive and anything in between

Hearing of several shoots changing to non lead next season. I'm certainly looking to reduce my stock of lead.

I think change will be led by shoots, much like the switch to fibre wad's. Don't think they will wait for law change.

Seems to be game outlets, pushing it.

I think all the best quality sidelocks from the London makers will always hold there money, if you can afford one you can afford to feed it bismuth, but the fear of guns not being fit for steel has really knocked the Sxs secondhand market, the op guns sounds a good solid one and I’d be more than happy to shoot steel through it, it would help if it was 70mm chamber also

I use a Russell Hillsdon sidelock that was owned by my late Uncle until about 1976, then my other Uncle inherited it. I was given it in around 2000 and used it ever since. I had to have it restocked after an accident.

Gorgeous little gun, super lightweight and perfect for my sort of game shooting. 65mm lead only, and I never shoot more than 28g, 26g for preference, if I can get them. Not suitable for steel.

At my age, I will buy 2 slabs of lead shot cartridges, which will last my shooting days out... My son just bought a re-barrelled s/s sidelock. The Steelshot barrels are heavy! Not nice... I rermain unsure

My neighbour has been using a 20b for game he borrowed off his sone, but TBH, he would be as well with his nice AYA, and use 26g loads to reduce the impact on a bad shoulder...

I use Churchill Continental (made by Arrieta) SbS. Long stock and 30" multi choked barrels. I could not find a fleur de leys, mores the pity. Dad left me his 1897 Purdey, which I can't hit anything with as it was fitted to him, but no doubt the value of that has/will plummet.
I have never got on with any O/U for game, although I can hit clays with them.

I love an old English S by S. I have a Charles Boswell that was my Great Grandfather that's underwent a restoration with Elderkins. I hope to get it back there this summer to be re fitted as I'm left handed! Recently bought a William Evans and its stunning really really like it! Have a 686 but its too heavy and too slow!
