Is anyone still buying side by side 12 bores ?

Is the proposal to ban all lead shot, or just for shooting game, etc for human consumption.
Will it be still OK for clays?

That's a good point.

Clay shooting puts several times more lead into the environment each year, and lots of cartridges for clays still have a plastic wad.

However, we never hear a whisper about switching to high speed steel for clays...

While lead free game shooting won't be long.

As far as I know it will still be allowed on clays, but for how long?

Seems strange that you won't be allowed to shoot a pheasant, but standing in the exact same spot with a clay trap to throw similar target, you can use lead.

As pointed out earlier it's the game dealers that are pushing for it.

Well there was a news story a couple of weeks ago, probably sponsored by antis, admittedly, but concerned lead contamination in supermarket bought game.

If anyone has a nice, not quite worthless British sbs, that the trade are trying to steal, 2 3/4" chambered, I'd welcome a pm.
I've got a Browning u/o and can't shoot for shite with it, I've never shot better than with the old Gallyon sbs I bought whilst still at school, but which sadly is not now usable.

Perhaps we should swap? I have an old AYA sbs and I can’t shoot for shite with that. Apart from sheep, they don’t get far.

I’m not blaming the gun though…😂

Yeah, thoroughly unhinged antis (Avery's lot). My question is how many game birds did they chuck through their friendly vet's X Ray before they managed to get the number of birds containing lead shot that they wanted for their propaganda exercise?

Is it only us that will have too switch from Lead to Steel?
I was looking up some stuff in the USA about Charles Boswell guns (now made by Chris Batha in Connecticut) and there was no mention of Steel v Lead there.

So, I’m wondering if Old English SbS’s would have a better market there.

I have used a 28 bore for a number of years ou. Pay a bit more for a good cartridge load and you might just surprise yourself.!!!
My neighbours shoots with a 28g. To watch him it’s magical. He very rarely misses. He say the light weight means he can be consistent all day long.

Bit late to the party here but for what its worth...

You almost certainly won't get what was paid for it value wise, not just the lead shot issue (although its not such an issue because standard steel is fine in nitro proofed guns as already said), but because they just aren't fashionable any more. But like the market for vintage cars drying up because the people who want them are fast disappearing, so to is the market for sbs guns.

If it turns out to be a nice Spanish or London made gun, or one of the better Birmingham made guns you may find a market for it (for instance, my dads h&h royal is worth more now than it was 10 years ago), but looking at the results of the latest holts auction, the desire for perfectly good but old fashioned guns just isn't there. Take it into your local gunshop and you will find out for sure.

I think they’ve had steel shot in the US for many years, at least in some areas or States
