Is crimped grain worth it?

Just looking at crimping our winter barley, is it worth the cost at £20 a ton for the additive plus the contractor cost?

Not for me couldn't bare our combine to have to endure 30%+ grain

100% yes .more yield better digestabilty .better for the stock . I can't think of a reason not to do it .I had an old crock of a combine and never had an issue . Open the sieves and go

You've got to roll it anyway (contractor cost).

If you dont have the storage for dry grain then yes. No dust, nicer to feed and easier on the animals guts.

We have always done dry before. Use a alvan blanch mill and mix so would have to get someone in to do the crimp

I bet you if you try it you will be amazed and never go back . Look at those guys crimping maize .farmers can't get enough of it .You will have your fields back sooner as well

If you are in an area where you struggle to get grain dry crimping is a no brainier.

Cutting it dry hasn’t been an issue. I was told cut it around 20% for crimp. My only thoughts are it’s going to be about 350 to do in 3 goes (some hybrid some standard and some spring) I’m guessing you just keep adding to the pile or does it need 3 clamps?

great stuff, on the 3 rd year now, we do winter and spring, just open the pit and roll well, we still feeding it now, don't goto high a moisture and the reps are pushing you to cut it at over 35%, the story of better feed, but there selling stuff and rolling on the tonne and your handling water but we tried it at all levels and around the 28 to 30 is best, the cattle show you that,

Yes , I used to mix brewers grains Trafford Gold Bread and Anything that was cheap with mine, fill big concrete water throughs twice a week
Don't let them get hungry though
