IS GREEN RENEWABLE ENERGY A CON?

Most people want to make money out of it.

And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that, especially if as primary producers of food our government is actively squeezing the life out of our traditional markets. However using your position of influence to make financial gain at the expense of others based on phoney science, lies and dodgy ethics is unacceptable in this day and age.

I’m just sitting here shaking my head in disbelief. Who comes up with these ideas? I presume they’re paid peanuts cos they sound like right monkeys
I believe the fluffer has to be at the dock, as the shipping company receiving the bales of waste were commissioned to provide one, and operate as well as having it looked after by their own fitters.

World is now full of Airbnb living, media nomads freelancing in social media influence management while investing in nebulous crypto that uses more electric than Argentina. So non-jobs, creating nothing, investing in thin air, eating hydroponic baby kale grown in led lighted containers, drinking £6 soy lattes so they can inform me what damage my growing grass is doing to the climate?

I love this! I presume you have never been offered a job by The Guardian?
Good post.

The statistic on the radio the other day said that you had to drive an electric car 120 miles before it became more energy efficient than your diesel car.

That statistic doesn't tke into account the amount of environmental damage done finding the Lithium for the batteries though.
let alone the further environmental damage in reprocessing the batteries once they are done....

the MP who created the RHI happens to have shares in the American chip supplier!

all we are doing is shuffling pollution around the world, leaving the rich to gloat about exporting their pollution and the poor to get the grief
Quite agree.

Unfortunately this whole climate change malarkey seems to be made up of hypocrisy, virtue signalling and greed

this and many other wasteful practices should be brought out in the open and mps talk about them ? would a business carry on like this ? the country is dwowning in debt intrest payments ? so much money of tax payers money is being wasted everywhere you look from historical sex allegations of prominent figures thats wasted police resources millions, who took the cane for that ? To billions written off on a nhs computer system ? i thought the whole point of getting out of the eu and that mess of unelected so and sos was to get our country run for what is best for our country and its people ?

I'd rather cut my own genitals off with a rusty spoon and rub the stump on James Cordens salty, post-marathon, sweaty man-boobs than lady my writing talent to that insideous bog-roll of veiled Beta micro-aggression.
you have a talent for creative writing. Have you considered an alternative career? Like writing politicians speeches for them?

who thought up the idea of carboncredits and the dealing of these ? Does it work like this, or have i got this wrong ? a large company can offset its carbon credit by paying someone else to plant some trees or something else ?

There are various taxes and charges built into your monthly electricity bill which pay for all this greenery.

You pay these, but the biggest energy users don't. For example, most big poultry outfits are eligible for 90% rebate on one tax element of the bill, but a small farm usually isn't. A big industrial concern can be eligible to claim 100% of various charges.

Like most taxes, the biggest companies have loopholes written in from the beginning.

so burning this wood chip from the usa what do we get out of it? same amount of pollution going in the air ? why cant we put our own countries resources, people, jobs first ?
10 years i grew short rotation coppice for wood chip for Drax. The government threw subsidies at us the Farmers Weekly wrote articles saying how great it was ie: profit on a par with wheat. Then Drax pulled the plug saying that my contract with them terminated in 3 months time even though it still had 3 years to run. The lesson, don't deal with the big boys. This is a complete con.

Unless the trees that are cut down to make wood chip are about to die anyway or that they are immediately replaced with new fast growing trees, how do we square the fact that those trees were photosynthesising, taking CO2 out of the atmosphere which they will not do any more, until they are replaced?

Doesn’t it makes you wonder if it would have been better to leave the trees to photosynthesise and burn the coal instead?
Its actually worse than that, because its chipped they clear-fell the whole lot, when timber was wanted they just took the good trees, there are concerns about all this in the US and canada.

I totally agree it is the way renewable energy is being marketed is a con. The marketing people are conning every one that the energy they are getting is predominately renewable. There are two aspects one being how it is being produced by the electricity producers and the second is the electricity market companies selling to individuals.

In the production of electricity it is not clear how "green" and how much it costs to produce electricity from each differing solutions based on a cost per kilowatt hour taking into account building, maintaining and disposal costs. Also how much subsidy is actually being given which is essentially factored into what the end user pays. I do not think people actually understand that the subsidy is added to the cost of a unit of electricity so comparing costs of different types of electricity without subsidy would be enlightening. I totally accept we must become more environmental aware, but sometimes using existing types of energy with clean technology can be just as "green" and carbon friendly than new renewable energy when looked at cradle to grave. I accept that coal and gas were "dirty" methods of producing electricity but with technology today what is actually emitted from some of the new power stations is actually very clean in environmental terms. Environmentalist always cry extraction of fossil fuels as dirty and a blot on the landscape, but to me large scale felling of trees is just as bad if not worse.

Drax to me has always seemed to be a con as others have said the importing and transport costs does not seem efficient in a carbon emitting sense and also the actual cost taking into account the whole supply chain.

Then we come to the companies selling "renewable" energy to individuals which is one very big con. I was recently talking to a neighbor who truly believed that the electricity he was buying from a company saying they were "fully" renewable was just that from renewable sources. When I told him no one knows exactly where the electricity is from as National grid buys it and it flows to all homes exactly the same so if your paying extra for renewable electricity your being conned to which he said he had not thought of the distribution of electricity and how he may not be getting what he is paying for. Then we have all these carbon credits being traded, I'm sure the same areas of land are being counted more than once in carbon capture accounts.
