Tried to combine undersown barley today and could make nothing of it! The barley is now broken over and the grass is up through it. Was trying to nip the tops off but couldnt keep out the grass. Knife wouldnt cut it and what did cut sat on the table and went in lumps through the combine.
Any tips? Other than mowing and baling it because thats my plan now. :(

Finished at home today. Not been much fun, been a bit of a smash and grab, just 2-3 dry days at a time. Exceptional yields. Loads of straw. Even chopping straw at farm close to here. Other 90 acres to cut for my uncle we share combine with.

Know what you mean about weekends! Harvest seems to have been a weekend job this year. Going to be another busy one coming up, much to my wifes delight.

Try a knife with plain sections much better in grassy crops. Sun on your back sure helps too !!

We got the last of our straw baled today, pretty amazed how it all came in to be honest as the land is still very soft. Do you still have a big area to cut @mac? I was speaking to a mate in watten who said there was a hell of a lot of flat oats in Caithness.

Aye we’ve a fair bit to cut yet 150 acres of very flat growing oats in Watten area and maybe 700 in total some standing well some broken over just need some good days been in some hellish stuff last few days brother just finished 150 acres of barley on a farm you’d think there’s been a roller over it and maybe 100 cattle in field for a week. He’s happier the day back in some standing stuff.
