Aye we’ve a fair bit to cut yet 150 acres of very flat growing oats in Watten area and maybe 700 in total some standing well some broken over just need some good days been in some hellish stuff last few days brother just finished 150 acres of barley on a farm you’d think there’s been a roller over it and maybe 100 cattle in field for a week. He’s happier the day back in some standing stuff.

I know everyone is talking about drilling, how much drilling and not drilling, but I was wondering if everyone managed to get the rest of the harvest in up north in the end, or are there crops still out in the field?
Finished late spring rape on thursday
Ten acres of oats mowed and baled, another ten ac flat and abandoned.
Lakes everywhere yesterday

Sounds a nightmare, it’s one thing not being able to get a new crop in the ground, but a whole lot worse not being able to harvest the previous one that you have invested your time, money and expertise in growing, just a shame that the majority of the politicians, and consumers don’t always understand or appreciate the affect weather has on the food we produce, and the costs of growing it in seasons like this one, let alone a normal year.

The oats were not mine, i was only pulled in to try and salvage something
I havent heard if caithness got finished

Still a bit of straw to bale in this area and further north and lots of small areas abandoned due to waterlogged soils in August which never dried out. Late August and most of September was fairly good in this area as got back to SW winds which are usually drying here. So plenty of opportunities to get tidied up on the dry ground.. We have had a NE wind for two days now and the rain lashing down so the straw will have to wait till the spring to bale now if its not chopped by then.

Most folks got tidied up here about the first week of October, although I Know there was barley being mown and baled last week. We've a few acres we didn't get, but knew in the spring we were pushing our luck sowing it in the first place, that's this winter's draining project.
We've been getting the best of the weather the last couple weeks, chance to get a lot of slurry out last week. It's probably been better than most of August or September was.
