Baled same day. Had liquid sunshine 12 days before.

Out of intrest what was the straw yield like?

I don't agree normally with using liquid sunshine unless its Sept tbh but this year is certainly the exception to that rule and needs must as the grain is fit yet the straw is very green.

Seen plenty of wheat around here where the grain is ready to go yet the straw is as green as a 2nd cut grass ley! tbh cant recall seeing that before on anything but the odd very late planted crop but this year it seems to be commonplace regardless of drilling date!

185 4ft 4 bales off 19 acres.

It will be a lot of years till we see another harvest like this. Never seen so much straw and grain. Stark contrast to last year where same farm was a disaster, completely burnt up.

This was certainly true 10 days ago, gone up the hill.

Since then 3" or so of rain has hit the straw fairly hard.

So, now the problem's completely reversed itself - the grain's too wet but the straw's now very brittle.

Some of my standing straw was cut late on the day a week ago on Thurs just before the rain hit us.

Rained hard every 24 hours since and it had a hell of a lot of rain on Friday/ this weekend, not been touched since cut, very heavy crop, was passing tonight so had a look at it thinking it would be very wet, I was amazed to find most of it was/ is dry as a bone and fit to bale!

Can only guess the wind has dried it out as fast as it has got wet!

Exactly the same here.

Should have got in some extra machines and cut the whole lot a week ago Thursday.

Local estate chopped couple hundred acre of W barley straw after it sat in the rain for weeks don’t think straw will be that cheap
Round bales straw making £12 at thainstone. We would have a extra hesston to the acre over a normal year.

Had a few people on the phone wanting to sell and there saying there struggling to shift it.

Looks like your's and @Chae1 Laureate is standing very well, no brackling??

Not yet. Just ripe though. Diablo also looking good so far but not ready. Malsters are complaining of high screenings apparently. Ours have been good so far and low nitrogen’s.

Had a slight issue the last 24 hrs with the combine gearbox deciding to sh!t itself. Fingers crossed we will be going again this afternoon.
