:scratchhead::banghead::banghead:I kid you not. The driving test is now going to include a section on your knowledge of how to use a satnav!!
Here is the kicker though. They are dropping the reversing round the corner test!
Many can't reverse as it is.
That's not quite how I understand it.

You will be required to undertake a more extensive test.

You will be required to follow verbal directions and those from a SatNav.

You will be required to reverse in to a tight parking space

That was my understanding too from reading the BBC news article this morning.

The greatest problem, as many of us already know, is that SatNav is unreliable. I had someone drive into my yard - access is immediately from a national highway, and ask where they turned right to go up the riverside because their SatNav showed a road going up the river bank. My entrance road (300m) is tarmac and it ends immediately in front of my house. This SatNav decided my private entrance was a public road and the unused tractor track going up the river bank needed a 5m drop off my "patio" into a small orchard to access the old tractor track.

I am sure many others have similar experiences of these new fangled gadgets. My car does not have a SatNav, nor do others of its age.

I do think sat nav should be included. BG junior met a driver with his tractor in the lane by some of our buildings last week. He actually got out and offered to do the reversing for the car driver :banghead:

I dont have sat nav but we frequently have people who do have it turn up on farm ... lost and very confused! also what I dont understand .. as someone who dosnt have sat nav .. with all the reports of dangerous driving caused by distraction of phones etc, why is it ok to peer at a little screen, whilst driving, either on a phone stuck to the windscreen or in the dash off center to your field of vision. Yes I know you can have a nice female voice telling you what to do instead, but in the various coaches etc I have ridden in, they have relied on watching the screen with the volume off. it must take some time to look at a screen and relate what you see to the actual roads around you, so if that is ok, why is even hands free phone discouraged.

Ffs , what is the world coming too:rolleyes:, I can parallel park my ute with no powersteering, no problem at all(y) mind you bull bar and flat deck are handy!:D
Honestly the standard of driving in the UK is pretty good on a world standard. Staying with expat friends a few years ago in Bangkok and made the mistake of mentioning to their driver we were running slightly late for the airport....I think we were on our eighth life by the time we pulled up. Never been so glad to get out of a car.
