For the last two days , the media has been full of sob stories about people “heroic” efforts to get back to blighty before a 14 day quarantine is enforced.
Tens of thousands of poor families have had to curtail their holidays drive hundreds of mile non stop and sometimes pay thousands of pounds to get home early , otherwise their social life would be ruined.
The tragic case of one young man who had to leave his parents in France with the family dog as it needed vaccinating before return. He was concerned about meeting up with friends before , they all wnet elsewhere, It cost him over £400 in a plane ticket alone.
Another mother who spent thousands because her 5 year old daughter needed to accompany the daughters father on another holiday and she had to meet up with her grandmother.
Not one of them needed to return for work!
Is it just me , who feels like throwing up when you hear such sob stories about, these rich spoilt brats!

Yep
They shouldn’t be allowed back
2 weeks quarantine in Calais and if they pass the test, then escorted onto the boat singly

It’s not really about travel but as the op suggests, how folk choose to live
My daughter here at the mo - largely to get away from those around her obsessed with their social life (illegal garage bars during lockdown for eg). She is dismayed (through Facebook) to see the plans of social gatherings gathering steam and just wants to stay here.

for sure, she had a desperate dilemma now about sending her kids back to school!

No reason why the government couldn't have given five to seven days notice of their intentions and spared a lot of anguish and expense. But, I expect it was done quickly as a "dead cat" to try and deflect some of the mayhem in the exam debacle. Just more government by chaos.

The whole thing is crazy, everybody should be quarantining after travel anywhere.
My 78 year old neighbours are fuming again they were booked to Spain but had to cancel that, so they were going to visit her sister in France and now have to cancel that.
They are pensioners for F*** sake, what would it matter if they did have to quarantine? I offered to get supplies in for the silly old fools

Apparently the Nippy Sweetie insisted on the 4am deadline today, knowing that there weren't that many Scots affected as the Scottish schools have already gone back but it would have to be a UK-wide rule. I'd have thought announcing a Sunday night deadline would have been a better option since most people will be coming or going over the weekend anyway. Not that any of it makes any difference as the 14 day quarantine isn't enforceable.

What galls me is the idea that people think they are 'entitled' to an overseas holiday, especially this year with the state of the world. I suspect a good deal of those trying to get back to the UK have just had the longest paid holiday of their working lives anyway, on furlough.

Outbreak in MK Has been linked to a pub , where 7 lads had been present despite having returned in the last few days from Spain. So many just don’t give a damn!

Probably an indication of how spineless Bozza's government is, if it's being told what to do by the Scottish Parliament. Or is it just a case of, not our fault guv, she made us do it, blame game.:D

Frankly, my dear, I'm past caring who's fault it is.

It's all rubbish since none of the rules are being enforced. I'm not convinced the government's actions to combat cv19 have done anything positive other than f*ck the economy and prove how selfish and socially irresponsible people are.

It’s everywhere except for North Korea apparently and not many people go there. It’s time we all grew up and accepted the facts it doesn’t matter if you go to France or to Skegness CV19 is out there. All those of us who want to get on with our lives should be allowed to get on with our lives all those who are worried need to take precautions. You don’t win a war by standing up to be shot but neither do you win it by hiding under the bed. If folk want to go on holiday or the pub or to a restaurant or to a football match good luck to them because basically what they are doing is trying to get the world back on track. If you don’t agree with that stay at home but as far as I can see getting the virus in the summer months is a lot better than getting in winter and the longer this is dragged out the more people will get in winter which cannot be good. Let’s face it Goverments are looking after themselves.

How many times has the gov been criticised for being too slow to react, now they are too quick, just seems to me that folk just want to moan, same with the exam thing, government had nothing to do with the downgrading of results its thecexam boards job, yet somehow its governments fault, even after the changes england had the highest results ever, scotland by over14 % and some still dont believe teachers were "generous" in their grading.
