Is it just me?

Is it just me or did anyone else hear it on some tv channel yesterday morning? some research body had found from their research that trees were producing more carbon than they were storing and if I heard it correctly GRASS was storing more carbon than any tree could, I know I heard it but never seen or heard any follow up.

No need to thank me: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-59065127

Forests are good unless you log them or set fire to them. 10 of the worlds most protected forests emitted more carbon than they captured but collectively the 270 protected forests captured billions of tonnes of carbon.

I think it wasn't trees as such but rather emissions arising from the felling and burning operations happening in these supposedly protected forested areas. It is not really surprising, you do not need to fell and burn many acres of a carbon neutral mature forest to produce a situation in which carbon emissions from that area exceed sequestration.

Plants of all types give off carbon dioxide when it’s dark. They only take in carbon dioxide when there is sunlight available to them and they are growing.
That’s why it’s not a good idea to have a plant in your bedroom. At night it competes with you for oxygen and tries to suffocate you with carbon dioxide.
