To drill winter barley now? Long story short (probably won’t be 😂), just finish drilling the the last 50ac block of wheat today and I’m left with a little 5ac field that was supposed to be the last field and destined for a first wheat. Anyway turns out I’m a bag of seed short 🤦🏻♂️ don’t really want to buy any more seed and what I’ve got in the shed is a mix of a few verities some of which had very poor germination so don’t want to just pull some off the heap! However, I do have a couple of bags of winter barley seed left over, so I’m thinking for the sake of 5ac it may be worth sticking it in and seeing what happens, if nothing else it will be a cover crop and If it looks poor in the spring I’ll just kill it off and drill spring barley. What’s peoples thoughts? Should I just leave it in the bag, save the diesel and let it do or is it worth a punt? Especially as the weather is so mild, stuff seems to still moving quite quickly at the moment. Thank for your opinion.
