Is John Deere Plus-50 oil worth it

About to service my JD 6300...just wondering what peoples thoughts are on using JD plus-50 oil or just go with a good grade 15w-40?

Cheers.

i not looked that hard but it looks like the old JD plus 50 is an just an E7 which is common multigrade oil for older engines and early common rail stuff (in general)

JD 50 plus 2 looks to be a E9 Low SAPS or low ash which is what you want for DPF filters

The plus 2 you will get in various viscositys i have some in 10w/40 but have had 10w/30 and 15w/40

What is the service interval hrs for the 6300 is it 500hrs
250 hrs if on an E5 ( now obsolete ) specification. +50 is E7 and meant you could extend the drain time by 50%, to 375 hrs. But I believe it was the introduction of the 10 series Deere’s that coincided with the initial launch of +50.
JD +50 II is an E9, CK4. Different animal to +50.

Just for the record, Renault, and subsequently Claas, never recommended +50 for the JD engines they used !

Whole threads on here devoted to the high cost of tractors and other engine powered farm equipment, can't understand the logic on wanting to skimp on oil quality.
Even a lifetime of the most expensive oil is cheaper than an engine rebuild.

That all said in an older tractor like a 6300 I wouldn't be afraid to run a generic oil , but I would pay attention to my oil change intervals.

Don’t think anyone is trying to skimp On quality it’s being ripped of by gready companies Who don’t even make oil.

The point of the thread is to question are we paying for a superior oil product that genuinely will give greater engine protection or are we getting are leg lifted...

According to the German department for unfair competition, during their investigation in 2019, ”misleading” may be a better term to use.
It was noted that JD didn’t even know the makeup of their branded lubricant !
JD had to withdraw their term JDQ 78X from the +50 II oil, as it was claimed it was an internal bench test, and not a test conducted by the lubricant manufacturer, or the additive technology suppliers.
They also had to withdraw from their literature the term that JD oil was developed by JD engineers, and that it stayed in viscosity much longer, and better, than conventional oils.

Kind of off topic how important is it to change engine oil on brand new JD tractors? The first oil change that’s to be done at 100 hrs. I have two here that are near 200 hours and the JD mechanic who was here this morning said to run them on for a few hundred more!?? It does not matter to me as they won’t be here long but what are peoples views?

Ours was 750 hours when the dealer serviced it and we kept to dealer service longer than we intended .because we had a dealer change and we didn’t now them and tractor being nearly new .500 hour oil change now i do it myself . Was speaking to the dealer and said I didn’t agree with 750 hour oil change. He said yes have spoken to JD about this because 6R 750 hours and 6m 500 hour service with the same engine. JD said just do as we say .

&600 for a 205 of plus 52 or what ever it’s called
So what your saying is it’s £60 (probably every 500h so 12p an hour) to change the oil on a 6 cylinder machine that’s worth 10’s of thousands?!

Bet you spend more on a meal and a few pints down the pub on a weekend or do you just go the chippy all the time because it’s cheaper?
