Is now a good time to buy a farm?

Assuming you run a profitable business with very little in the way of borrowing, with money lending being at an all time low is now a good time to buy a farm? Or with everything going on with Brexit and a possible end to SFP should we all be sitting tight?

Yes a nice set up in the north of Pembrokeshire and you'll need a nice farm manager to look after things and include a house

A good reason for buying a farm now is that next year you will be a year older so will have less time to enjoy it.
Been to a funeral today, always makes you think.

If the figures stack up with no SFP/BPS then yes go for it. I doubt very if we get any payments after 2019 if we do they will be a lot smaller. I don't think land values will drop much though as there are plenty of investors looking for a safe place to park their money so I wouldn't be banking on buying cheap land after 2020 either.

You may well be right. There are others who say now would be a good time to sell land to reduce borrowing as we're all doomed once the BPS money runs out???

The problem at the moment is nobody really knows what we can expect in a few years time, never before have we been in limbo like this and its not just bps

Or, as my 95 year old friend Bill says', "Well bought is half sold"

I guess interest rates will trend up, but not by much, at a guess I think land values will soften some given the outlook over the next couple of yrs.

So maybe wait a while, there may be better deals to come.

Totally agree. Some are ticking along nicely at the moment, not making a huge profit but the BPS pays the mortgage. If BPS ends how will loans get repaid?
