Is the ‘Big Drill’ going to happen?

I think it’s a good balance and the perfect soil type for zero till and Input reduction

Yes, Hanslope series was identified as a very good soil suitable for direct drilling. You are fortunate to be located where there is quite a band of chalky boulder clay over glacial drift / till on which has formed the Hanslope soils. Look forward to seeing more pictures in the coming weeks. Best wishes,

I'm having to dig deep to stop myself from going to look at the fields, I just know that they will be so much better end of this next week , will just have to check that I don't miss any spraying weather to get the glypho on. Plans may change along the way as well,,,,,,,, was going to use the 6 m weaving tine drill straight in but I think it will pull up a lot of rough, I'm hopping that the vaddy will cut in well and make a nice job, only time will tell whether I should put a tine in b1i1 have a feeling it may be best to drill straight into the seed bed we have from last autumn

Exactly the same here. But the difference is moving it now will make mess. In a fortnight you can almost run over the ground with the drill, then turn round, put seed in the drill and plant it properly.

Done a bit of spraying but it's got a bit breezy so will get ready to go after tea.

It's amazing how it's changed in the last 2 days. Thursday I was slip sliding all over the place walking across the field, today I could almost walk it happily in shoes.

Wet sloppy silt paste dug out of the ditch on Thursday will support my weight happily today.

Contractors will be booked tomorrow for planting this week.
Hoping to get herbicide on the wheat this week and make a start on the first dose of fertiliser too.

Amazing how much you can get done when the weather plays ball for once. Whole farm will look a lot different in a week or so. So nice not to keep looking out on puddles everywhere too.

Shorts and shoes the following week.....!

Yup the world is so much better when it’s dry

Well I did take a spade with me when I went for a walk yesterday ,,,,,,,, no need to panic just yet , a lot of drying got to happen yet. A dry inch crust which is starting to crack so will hopefully let the next layer dry

Walked a bit of winter barley yesterday. Bit patchy due to water logging but amazed to see cracks on the surface.

In the middle.
Had a walk around ours yesterday with a spade and some would drill but not a whole field yet. Should get some round up on in the next few days but may not need to much as the neighbour was splashing some about yesterday in the wind and i think most of it landed on mine. It wasn't windy in he's cab apparently!

Just been servicing the sprayer to make a start on a couple of stubble fields and a grass key that needs redoing as it's grown back after being sprayed off last sept , had a dig in the old key and it wants a gd vweaving in it really , but I might try and scratch a shallow seedbed and vaddy it in , bean stubble looks fair and will be first to go with the event drill as and when
