Is the Government going to abandon conservation schemes ?

The country is bankrupt now anyway for at least 10 years and they are going to have to pay out hundreds of billions of ££s every year for at least that long to keep the country going and people alive so 3 billion a year to the Ag industry in direct payments will be like a tenner to a normal person on the street for the government.
As @Clive said on another post ‘if I was the government I would borrow trillions’ or similar
They print more money don’t have to pay it back always get paid

was thinking about all the malting barley around here......pubs shut and euro 2020 postponed.....who's gonna want beer

Tonight people have started clearing shops/ supermarkets out of booze as soon as they heard the pubs were shutting.

If people are stuck at home for months on end and cant go anywhere ( which now looks very likely ) like the beach/gym etc then many of them will turn to drink from boredom after a few weeks!

Oh yes it does.
Goverments borrowing money, printing it, de valuing it, not paying it back unfortunately they aren’t bothered about what you and I do.
I spoke to a mate of mine today who works in de la rue. He’s working flat out can’t get any time off they are wanting £27 billion printed in a hurry and want more after that.

Only problem I see is these new bank notes a shiny and non absorbent - how the hell are they going to be any use as loo roll, be a sbad as Izal. In fact a few sheets of Izal might be worth more.

I do wonder how this paying the employed £2500k a month is going to pan out. Lots of flaws in it, I know why they've done it. Maybe, with luck it may only have to last 2-3 months

The only way this country can possibly pay for the current China Virus catastrophe is to print money. The consequence will be hyper-inflation will wiping out the debts and making private pensions worthless. The pound will be massively devalued enabling the Chinese to buy up our infrastructure companies cheep and proceed to bleed us dry.

The word is that all conservation scheme land is to be ploughed this year in case of food shortages.
Tree planting schemes also cancelled.

im sure that government has loads of time to consider such things right now , I mean it’s not like they are busy with anything else is it

fake news ! ............. for now anyway

What is there to consider about it ? , they have just issued a blank cheque in an attempt to save the economy there will be no spare money anything that is any way unnecessary will be ditched . The currency will weaken importing will be expensive the balance of payments and feeding people will taken much more seriously other countries will be poorer to so won't want to export food either , it's going to change fast .

Whats the point of ploughing the crap strips round fields that are tufty grass and will cost more to get cultivated than worth. Sounds the sort of thing the radical farmer lobby would say. Better to divert cereals away from meat production into direct consumption. And non food uses - pet food - do we need that. So a far deeper subject.

WARAG next.
Doesnt that depend what worth might be ?

Certainly interesting times! Concurr Sterling is likely to devalue. How devalued against the US dollar, the Euro and Yuan will be interesting to see. However, as this is a world issue other significant agricultural countries with weaker currencies are likely to be affected. So Sterling may devalue, but I suggest the Brazilian Real, Argentinian Peso, Russian Rouble and Ukrainian whatever will be worth less. And thus our valueless Sterling may still be able to purchase same amount of Maize, Soya, Beef etc from those countries. Ironically Mr Trump my have to greatest problem with an overvalued US Dollar and farmers with tonnes of Maize and Soya with an over priced currency - will he dump it n the world market to appease farmers or shove it through ethanol plants - or will the US reflate its way out of the coming recession by protecting the shale gas and oil fields against the rest of the world.
