I once referred to my self as a farm worker on a separate post and I was surprised to the amount of comments back saying I am more than just a farm worker, ‘don’t put my self down as just a farm worker’ etc and it got me thinking about how a lot of people see the term farm worker as a backwards job title now. With technology advancements and ‘general farm workers’ now having to make technological decisions which they obviously didn’t have to make in the olden days is term out dated and possibly seen as demeaning? I feel there are not many other job roles out there that require such a level of variety of skills ? Let me know your thoughts and opinions.

We work on a farm, call it what you wish, but we still have to push the brush in the morning.
Personally I don't care, the world is full of bullsh1t titles that mean nothing, many of which have to come with an explanation because they are total bollox.

what are your technical decisions, i think farm work was demeaned years back as it was relatively low paid,im not sure it is demeaned nowadays
Thank you for your comment James I’m a big fan of your cooking. Some one told me on here the farm work role and responsibility of a farm worker has changed dramatically from when horses where working farms and people where paid In cider.
I think you could make those arguments for terms like "farmhand" or "farm labourer", but what other succinct (ideally 2/3 word), accurate term is there for an employee who undertakes a range of duties on a farm? (As opposed to, say, a herdsman which is a more specific term/role).

GFW is often best, doctors get away with being called GP’s as they cover(google) a lot of subjects. General Farm Worker means you cover a large aspect/variety of work...

times and attitudes change ,but there was some highly skilled workers then as now,similar with mechanics theres allways been a range of highly skilled and less so but it was a little thought of job previous not so now

In my opinion I’d argue that a lot of the true skill is taken away with the likes of auto steer

In the dairy sector you'd be employed as a Second-in-charge or Farm Assistant, unless a specific role like calf rearer, tractor driver, milk harvester
Sheep/ beef similar, although specific roles like musterer or shepherd are often employed , the "general farm hand" is usually the CEO

On more than one occasion I have ticked "Agricultural Engineer" on forms as it looks the most intelligent, and I hate spanners.
Just put "Farmer" now
