Is there a demand to purchase a lovely old barn - buyer takes down and removes?

approx. 80 x 16ft, not listed but perhaps should be? Lovely old timbers, would make a stunning conversion but is surplus to requirements.

This is purely hypothetical at this stage, asking on behalf of others!

Sold as seen, including tiles etc

@grainboy is this one for you!?

not really. It looks as you would imagine.

Would it not be listed or Architectural important?

its not listed, it’s may be of interest but removing it is saving it surely! Not got to this level of detail yet!

Stunning looking building you would be mad to take it down. Surely you could convert it to holiday let or sell for big money to someone to convert and buy a small farm from the proceeds. Can't imagine you would get much from anyone to take it down.

So bit of feedback In case others find this post in the future.

This was asked on behalf of someone else, not me. I’d have converted it to holiday let’s / wedding venue personally.

the reason it was being condisered was because it was a liability without the funds to repair. If it had a value then that could have gone towards other areas. the site was ‘building heavy’.

I think I the building could have been sold to a 3rd party for maybe 30-50k. They seem to remove it and send it to the yanks for 70k plus so there is a market in theory.

Advice to others - they have value but try and find a way to use it on site.

also, you need planning to knock it down and if any issues arose from doing so you may then have to buy it back and rebuild, also risk Of it being listed in the future.

Father sold one back in the 80's for about 3 grand. It wasn't listed but very nice old oak and elm barn . A couple of architect type people came and made drawings of it then it was dismantled and re-erected somewhere in Suffolk as a barn conversion . We did have somewhere some photo's of it but I cant find them .
Perhaps it was easier back then but the planning office wasn't involved.
