Is there much use for these?

Have just made a dozen of these badger gates for a new client but wondered how widely these get used and whether there is a decent market if we were to produce and sell direct to farmers? thanks for any helpful comments

Its adjustable, there is a tab at the bottom that simply turns to allow the badger to go through and out of a field either way as required..... but not come back!
The base bar on the internal frame is solid so its weighted to ensure the gate always swings shut against the stop.

? I think it is probably useless for a badger, they'll just barge and rip their way through where ever they please. However, I have occasionally wished for a creep type gate like that when a lamb has got through the fence, it would be a godsend to have one of those on each fence line where we lamb.

Our local badgers would probably look at that and think "hmm, not sure, I'll just rip the stock fence apart and enter that way". Did see a few of these in Hampshire though, where the badger population may be less and farmers more kindly disposed towards them.

I think they very happy with routine and follow the same paths to feed, and if you put the gate on the path they will go through. They are also very eager to go to use the same latreens and will spend an hour or more getting round an obstacle to get there to see who else has been about. Will even squeeze though something like a 4" gap to get there.

Try the National Trust, several years back they put rabbit fence up to keep bunnies in the cliff and out of the field. They put in timber framed badger gates, yours look far better than those were.

Like the hinges at the top. IMO would need to have a quick release type catch, especially one that you could tie a rope to to open or close from a distance. Imagine walking a lamb up the fenceline, it's not going to stop while you open the gate, but they ARE constantly pocking the fence at their head level looking for a way back through.

But not like a race guillotine, I've had the gate jam halfway down and sheep going both directions:rolleyes:.

While most farms have dogs, a lot of smallholdings don't and you might find a good market there. I unique niche product,
