Is this Orf?

Does this look like orf? My Andy's had it a week. He wasn't aware of hurting his finger.

A friend has suggested orf but the odd thing is we Scabivax our lambs at birth. However we have definitely handled lambs within the last fortnight.

What's the cure?

Should add it is hard, raised. It was covered in a white film until Andy picked the scab. Doesn't seem to have like a thorn or that inside it.

Looks similar to when I had orf on my hand but hard to be sure. Biggest difference I noticed between it and a normal graze was that although it looked to be forming a scab, it never crusted properly.

As it's a virus, you just have to keep it covered to prevent spreading it and give it time (about 5 weeks iirc) although A&E gave me antibiotics to cover any secondary infection.

If you're very unlucky, it can bring about urticaria. I had that, and although prescribed antihistamines, it was deeply unpleasant :inpain:

Wot everyone else said about the rest of it, and please don't let him pick it!
It'll scar - could cause problems with dexterity later in life - and he'll spread it :wtf:

Did you take antibiotics before urticaria set in?
Only ask because I had Orf on a finger, grew to golfball size in hours of seeing smallish spot. Red tracking up my hand triggered doc to give me antibiotic. Next day had urticaria - doc thought from AB not from Orf.

I was lucky not to have bacterial infection, so didn't need any antibiotics. The urticaria started after the pustule erupted, and was absolute yuck.

It's a systemic zoonoses that I don't want to have again, that's for certain.

IMG_0210.JPG IMG_0217.JPG IMG_0228.JPG IMG_0244.JPG ....Mrs YB had it a few years ago. It's nasty stuff:(
Gona get him seen tomorrow
Round here the problem is, not a lot of doctors have even heard of it, let alone seen it and know what to do. Hopefully your doc will be clued up.

As has been said above, be careful if it is Orf 'cos there's no quick fix.
