The problem is both Poultry and Pigs are not Farmer organised and have no control over the market. Both groups of Farmers are the biggest investors in their chain and to boot Farmers supply cheap. Labour to tend others people’s livestock.
From what I understand is NPA has made a good job of encouraging Farmers to be efficient, Produce more pigs and become better qualified. I do not think the topic of ‘becoming more profitable from the market’ has been a topic.
The milk price would not be rising under the same regime. So marketing?

The other part of the problem is cheap imports especially from places with lower welfare standards.

I know that milk can and is being imported but I would suggest that it deterirates much more quickly and so longer hauls for fresh liquid milk are more difficult than, say, a container full of Spanish or US Pork or poultry.

In case you are wondering how the prices in the rest of Europe are

"Schweinepreise in Europa KW 21-+22-2022
NL (unv = EUR 1.65)
F (unv = EUR 1.831)
B (+ 1 Ct = EUR 1.55)
DK (unv = EUR 1.62)
E (unv = EUR 2.08)
IT (unv = EUR 1.48) LG
A (unv = EUR 2.03)
PL (+ 3 Ct = EUR 1.83)"

I personally know that 25% of the Barns will stay empty forever, and It's not only the price breaking the camel's back. The future of pig production is in Spain or the east

I don’t think I’m breaching any confidences by publishing extracts from last week’s NPA piggy points

Please note the House of Lords debate on the pig crisis THIS Thursday from noon - maybe tune in to BBC Parliament channel for the first time

Another thing I dont really get is how Poland manages those prices as they have trouble with African Swine Flu, Belgium does so too but their Prices have been extremely low for almost 5 years now dunno how there are any pig farmers left.

Contracts
Vertical integration like in the poultry Business at least here in Germany.
They raise what's ordered essentially, and the costs are also very low plus they became a major exporter to east and southeast Asia
Our pig industry is pretty well vertically integrated too - even though I am not myself, unfortunately only producing a half of what our country needs in terms of pigmeat means that a well organised importing system can source the cheapest anywhere and undermine our prices very easily.

Good to hear views from elsewhere though.

Most of the belly cuts from here go to the UK for bacon etc but that doesnt mean that its german meat.
Danish slaugtherhouse in Germany where Romanians work as loaned labourers and cut up danish pigs.
Same with the dutch and VION.
Theres a huge loophole with rented labourers.
