Is this the wettest Autumn you have had to cope with?

Haven’t even tried to sow anything, far too wet, our light ground on the riversides keep getting flooded out, the heavier ground is soaked, in 2012 we had half our wheat in and all winter barley sown this is the wettest our farm has ever been, so had a full three weeks getting all our hedges and contract hedge cutting work up to date for a change!

Its only been wet for 3 weeks here. I was haymaking on the 21st Sept, and the ground was rock hard then. Its more a case of consistently rainy days at precisely the wrong time than the conditions being unmanageable.

In 2012 we had a good September, though most of it was spent harvesting & sowing osr. I hadn't got much wheat in by the end of Sept & didn't until the end of October. Some done in November but a lot of heavier land was left until March/April and went into spring barley. In 2000 we had a few weeks of dry in October to get planted up which we did ok, then it never dried up for 6 months.

It's only 13th October, so it's not like autumn is over yet. Far too early to draw conclusions. If we'd had an extra dry week at the end of September we'd be a lot further ahead than we are now.

They are harvesting maize around here and the roads are the cleanest I can remember.
It’s soggy underfoot and muddy in places but I’m surprised at the question really.

Beet field could be tricky in places.

Getting bad , but sensibly for me never went on the stubbles since the combine , otherwise it's a write off . still need 2 weeks dry weather to do anything .

September and October (so far) are twice as wet as last year.

Very similar rainfall totals here to 2012. The only saving grace is the SMD’s this year were probably minus 100mm or something before the rain started.

According to the forecast we are due a chance to drier weather by the end of the week. (FINGERS CROSSED!)

Be easier to name the good years
The good ones usually follow a bad one in my experience
For example, 2013 was a poor yielding harvest but £200/t softened the blow
2002 was the 1st time we'd averaged 4t/ac for wheat, it came after the poor harvest of 2001 which followed the wet Autumn of 2000

It’s wet, but not as bad as 2012, the whole year was a total sh#te from late March to September it was constantly wet with only 3 weeks in September offering any respite, it was a dismal harvest that we didn’t endure this year.

Yes we at least had established OSR that year, but most of it we couldn’t get Kerb or Fox on or Slugs off of, and areas were written off and the bg in the OSR affected the next years Wheat, wheats drilled without rolling and pre em all suffered with slugs and bg

It’s very wet, but I only had 30% of my wheat drilled this time last year, with good yields from end of Oct drilled wheats

I might not be quite so relaxed if nothing is drilled for another 10 days !!!
