I’ve heard £35/bale on the field around here so I wouldn’t be surprised. Some areas were desperately short or run out this spring and would’ve only had 1.5 cuts so far at best.

The digesters will pay £28 a bale for silage regardless of quality... puts a bottom in the market.




£40 could look cheap come January if the grass doesn't grow!

What’s that silage like though? A world of difference in feed value between some rocket fuel young ryegrass that’s been well made, and some old shite that’s basically last Autumn’s growth, bulked out with buttercups and thistles, all conveniently hidden by black wrap.
Since I moved up here, I’ve been shocked at some of the cr*p that some have spent a lot of money wrapping up.

Greedy man. I have been to see 10 people this last fortnight about hay, haylage, silage and no one is letting any go in the fear of what it might be worth this next winter. If everyone is at that game It may prove worthwhile to wait whilst winter and buy it as it may be cheaper I’m sick of burning the diesel tbh.
