Isuzu d-max 2.5.

Good pickup was some issues with pre 2014 models of letting fuel into the sump when doing a dpf regeneration but most should be sorted by now.
My only gripe with mine was alot of wearing parts are only available from isuzu no matter how hard I looked to find pattern parts. So being oem parts they can be quite expensive!

Go post 2015 or later , essential to have full dealer history and be upto date with engine software (there are 10+ revisions) They are lethargic without the dealer applied re-map option for both 2.5 & 1.9's. Auto suits them better.

Manuals have a very tall 1st gear on the 2.5's, clutches take a beating if low range isnt used to pull away with a heavy trailer.

Paint especially metallics & white is very very thin, watch for corrosion especially around the windscreen.

Some tails of 4wd & low range engagement solonoid problems - check carefully.

I would buy on condition, not mileage.

After asking about, and on here, I was looking for a pickup, I eventually purchased a '17 plate 2.5 D-max.

Pros
Relatively frugal, trundling empty on a 15 ish journey returns nearly 40mpg!
Handles a trailer well, feels solid enough
Comfortable without being showy and overly blingy

Cons
6th speed is pretty useless, it is highly geared, 1st too high for setting off with a load really, 30mph in 3rd without feeling like your hammering it. You need to be doing 70mph and above to justify 6th gear, and at those speeds its not really the tool for the job.
Sat nav is pretty unintuitive, I struggle to get my hear around it!
It sounds quite agricultural, but to be honest, I like that!!

Would I buy it again, yes! It's a workhorse, I had a fresh Ford Ranger previously, which was smoother, more comfortable, more gadgets, which was fine for tarting it about, but the Isuzu is something you can jump in with wellies and overalls, or a suit and tie of needed.

On short journeys mine does about 29mpg long run it’ll be up to 33 mpg. I changed the road tyres to semi off road and it dropped 2mpg straight away. Look for rust on the rear door in the bottom left just under the glass both my Isuzu’s have rusted in exactly the same place. I was fobbed off with”it’s a stone chip”. Check it’s been serviced and also check it’s not doing a regen every 50 miles, should be between 150-200 miles.

2010 one here, bought with just over 100K on the clock. Initially had quite a few issues with parts just simply wearing out which all seemed to happen together and the cost soon mounted up. That said it's just had its 200K birthday and touch wood is going well, currently averaging 25-30k miles p/a. Handles most things I chuck at it well and never really found it wanting. Seems very thirsty when towing? There are some small rust spots starting to creep through the paintwork now by the wheel arches but it's 11 years old and to be expected- it's a work truck and treated as such.

I'd have another tomorrow.

My 2015 just clocked up 130k. Can honestly say it's not had one single issue. Not had a single part fitted other than service items
I do think that benefit from being worked hard which mine gets worked very hard.

2015 D-Max here, very few issues in 112k miles, had an EGR valve and only last week the lower swivels and a propshaft UJ and a recon front diff. as above in manual 1st is a tad too high pulling away with a load/trailer but actually 6th gear is spot on for motorway work.
Nice comfortable workhorse, just fill it with fuel and go, it never uses a drop of oil either

We have a 2010 2.5. Never tow much with it, seriously gutless with a trailer been like that since we bought it recon there is an underlying issue somewhere.

I have one of the last 2.5 d-max which replaced one of the first 2.5’s. It feels like a different truck really. I have had no issues with it and to be honest like it. Engine is a little noisy but found that pouring some Stanodyne in fuel tank does seem to quieten it down a little. I generally use Stanodyne in tractor fuel and thought may as well give the d-max a 'vodka shot' - what is the worst that can happen

First d-max I had was an early one and had problems with DPF and to a lessor extent, getting diesel in the sump. Dealer said injectors possibly over fueling, so would change them. This was about the time the new 1.9 facelift model was coming out. Long story short they could not get one of the injectors out so head was to come off and to do this was engine out. Then some parts could not be got for three or four weeks. I went to get some stuff out of the back of it one day and opened the back to be faced with the engine in bits! They lent me an auto and a manual facelifts but was unimpressed with the new engine. Meantime I’d had a look at a Ranger but there was a 9 month wait for a new one according to dealer. Swapping the demonstrator in one day I ended up doing a deal on a brand new 2.5 d-max in green again. Deal included the Pedders suspension upgrade, swapping my black Isuzu wheels across and had it dechromed as 'black trim matters' Matter of fact it looked identical to the old one so most never knew I had swapped (I have my own plate - nothing expensive!). My on the phone with some daft tale or rumour every day dairy farmer neighbour stopped me in the street on my way home with new pickup. Stuck his smelly dairyfarmer head in and pronounced it smelt and looked like a new one inside. I told him because it had been parked up in dock for a month the garage had done a full valet. He still believes that to be the case  It isn't often I get one over on him!

As has been said get one of the later 2.5's. Much prefer it to a 1.9 more so as mine has a Stienbauer chip box which is about the only chip box I'd trust. Pulls away nicely now but can't give actual figures as not been on a rolling road. They claim 193bhp and torque up from 295lb.ft to 354lb.ft and really don't doubt these figures. I can turn it off or on from a switch in the cab. Tows well and does the job. Can't ask for more. I did have a demo of the new D-Max and although it's more akin to a Ranger now as far as electrical goodies and cab comfort, but am still not convinced about the 1.9 engine. To be fair did pull and go acceptably. Really didn't want to spend the money, more so as perfectly happy with the 2.5. It's a bit of a treadmill this new vehicle lark. As mentioned don't be frightened by miles so long as it has been looked after with regular services. It'll certainly do your job for not big money (y)

Would add that mine is re-mapped by Avon Tuning, it’s 200 and 400ft lb so it does go very well, do a fair bit of towing and is perfect for it.

I have a 14 plate 2.5 DMax with 145k on the clock.
Never had anything bar service items and a clutch switch. Gearbox is about perfect - low enough first gear for a loaded trailer but not too low it's a pain without the trailer. 28.3mpg constantly on mixed running. 26 if you came it towing or 36 on a run. Very comfortable, does what I ask with no fuss. It's on General AT tyres, better on fuel and quieter than the bfg variant.
Ford Ranger previously and Mitsubishi L200 farm truck both much thirstier, more uncomfortable and bigger turning circle.
