Isuzu D-Max handbrake releasing!

Had an incident today. Fortunately no one was hurt. The handbrake on my 2016 Isuzu totally jumped off. It was fully applied and was parked on a slope. It definitely released as opposed to not being applied as it was too much of a slope to have stayed where it was for any time let alone the 10 mins it stayed there. When I got to it I saw before I unlocked the door that the handbrake was totally off. I have had a look online and can't find anything to suggest it's been an issue with them. Has anyone heard of any issue?

I thought I always do but I obviously I didn't this time. Regardless though the handbrake should not have disengaged

No indeed it shouldn't.
It's not an electronic one is it

No an old fashioned manual one. It didn't even drop a click or 2, it went to the floor

Really? I never got a recall and I can't find anything online. What did it say?

Something about not pressing the button while pulling the handbrake on
Don't know if I will still have it or not

Thank you for that. I called the dealer it came from. They said they didn't know of any issues

Its been a huge issue but no recall. They simply issued the letter to all original owners saying dont press the button when applying it. I would go knocking on isuzu's door.

That's reassuring that I am not going mad! The only logical explanation was that the handbrake was applied and had totally disengaged. Strange there is nothing to be found online? I have tried my dealer. I will call Isuzu UK this morning. Thanks for the info

My cowman's son, who works for a large tree surgeon type business, had this happen a few weeks ago. The handbrake just let go as he was opening a lane gate and it just missed him but smashed into a hedge causing some damage. His employer had a letter about two weeks before about the issue but it seems that the message didn't trickle down to drivers.
There really should be an urgent safety recall about this.

And how would letting the button stay out enable the ratchet to work any better really?

My incident happened in a residential street and has done £600 of damage to a fence plus damage to itself but it could have been so much worse

I dont know, I assume it prevents the odd case of the possibility of the ratchet partially engaging/dissengaging? I had the same letter a month or so ago from Isuzu but will also add not had an issues at all with it over 98K miles.

I always push button in when puttin hand brake on any machine cause always thought it wore the wee teeth away if ye didnt so seems pretty odd bein told to not do it

I've no idea. I wouldn't have an Isuzu pickup unless it was in desperation.

I was told on my driving lessons years ago you had to hold the button

If ever you want to see if there is a recall go on the dvla website and put in your reg
