As said, first one should be less than £200, there could be software updates to do, navigation might need an update, keep it with the main dealer when in warranty, Our Navara at over 4 needed a aircon condenser, no charge, another Navara almost 5 ,big mileage had a new engine, again under warranty.

Sigh....they've got to you too. 5 year warranty on new Nissans, right? And you're pleased that they've done warranty work under warranty?

A dealer/manufacturer can't wriggle out of their warranty obligations just because they haven't been the ones servicing the vehicle. As long as there's a paper trail showing that the servicing has been carried out as per the schedule, with proper fluids and proper parts, they haven't got a leg to stand on if they try to fight it. If they do try to fight it, tell them to go sit on a 4" nail. Any court in the land will tell them the same thing.

I worked in independent workshops for years, never had any issues with warranties in my time. To be honest, I heard of more warranty related horror stories from new customers who were mentally scarred from their experiences with the dealer workshop.

I’ve never had updates on sat nav in vehicles ever,or battery replaced in remote control for locking and starting.i do know of someone whose remote stopped working one night leaving him stranded till he go to a garage selling batteries.truck was just over a year old too.

What sort of vehicle was it that a flat fob battery meant he was stranded. I thought all cars had a skeleton key in the fob for opening the door? And if it’s keyless ignition, there should be an area to hold the keyfob against to pick up the rfid chip. In a vw its where the key would normally be.

It was a hilux.yes can get into vehicle with key unlocking door but only a button for starting and it would not connect without a new battery in the fob thing.battery is only the size of a 1p coin and available in most garages.

I think your friend needs to read the manual. In a Toyota , if the fob battery is flat, you hold the fob against the start button. It will then read the key and turn the ignition on.
I don’t know of any manufacturer that has keyless ignition, that you can’t start with a flat fob battery. You just need to know where to hold the fob.

Service it yourself or have it done by an independent. As long as genuine filters and approved fluids are used, and the Isuzu service schedule is followed religiously, it won't affect the warranty.

Dealer servicing is the biggest scam since the ponzi scheme.

I can't help with your original question though, sorry. I recall the Dmax service schedule being full of stupid sh!t, like checking the valve clearances every other service, and for some reason pulling the front wheel bearings to bits and re-packing them with new grease at the first or second service. Strange stuff really, but it is what it is. Bugger paying a dealer "mechanic" hundreds of lbs per hour to do that stuff.

I bet they don’t pull and repack bearings. I though diffs required oil change on second expensive service but looking at schedule with local tame indie garage they were supposed to have been done at first service. Told them check oil level in them but I’d change oil myself. If you want anything doing right then do it yourself. Would have serviced it myself but at least indie puts a stamp in the book.

not the first service surely.must have been a major one with valve clearances etc. i know my brother did his tiger 800 himself rather than pay craig's workshop. but even a major service seems very dear at £1000.

First service on my Ducati I had was only £240,not sure what triumph dealer @Martin Holden friend used but the one close to us went pop not too long ago owing millions so perhaps it was them trying to recoup lots of money

My 2.5 D-Max was I think £380 last time I took for a service, that was the large one and they did go through it comprehensively but then it was a local JD dealer that had the Isuzu franchise and their main man was top class, really good. Unfortunately they've lost the franchise now so I think my nearest dealer is Worcester, a normal dealership.
I now just take it to an indi who is good but to be fair there isnt a lot to do to the old 2.5

Good indi’s are fine. I have a cracking Volvo Indy close to Tewkesbury so not too far from me and he is top notch. Went to buy some replacement wiper blades at the main dealer in glos and what a weird place. Parts dept is on the first floor but not allowed up there! Was able to watch some lads on the workshop fitting a tow bar on a new car (glass windows into the w/shop) and the way they were cutting rhe poly bumper, well I’d rather do it myself! I imagine it’s the sort of place that present the bill in a glossy folder - you just know it’s going to be expensive!

I'm a bit daft. The amount of potholes would put me off too! Drove to Aviemore and roads completely different. Aberdeenshire council roads department are a disgrace.
