It’s not been a great week here so far.
Weaned 500 lambs off the twins on Monday morning, came back to get trailer to fetch them back and my young dog managed to get something in her eye whilst pottering round the yard. She then scratched it out and damaged the lens in her eye. Result, after a trip to the vets:

Set to bolusing and worming those lambs yesterday, with my ‘yard dog’ pushing them up well. 7 pm last night she jumped the RAPPA hurdle at the back and was stuck dangling their for a minute or so before I managed to get to her. The poor old girl managed to dislocate her hip so, after another trip to the vets:

Number three dog is ‘limited’ in her ability these days (I think she may bd a blonde really :banghead: ) and I have already arranged her rehoming to a friend’s smallholding.

They say bad luck comes in threes, and I’m guessing the F in law having a mini-stroke and a pacemaker fitted this week completes the tally.:(

Roll on next week…

I had one dislocate her hip she would of been 7 or 8 at the time, she never really worked again which was a hell of a shame she was a fantastic dog hopefully yours will make a full recovery

A local lass who uses my shed at lambing time took two of her Blue Texels to be E.T'd last week and one had an aneurysm and bled out in the crate through its nose. The vet had never seen that happen before and neither had I even heard of it despite seeing thousands of ewes go through the crates. Her two ewes both only gave a pair of embryos. To really make her day she then went to check her other ewes and one she had sold and was pending collection had died in the field. Some days are sent to try us.

I had one of those weeks when we started harvest this year. We got less than 100 yards and a couple of bolts fell out of the knife drive as they had been left loose after a main dealer winter service. Found a couple that would fit but managed to sheer one off in the hole. Got going again, went for an hour or so and bunged the combine up. Cleared it out the next morning, got on the go for a bit and realised I was sat at a funny angle, have a look and a front tyre is split. Luckily small enough split to pump up, unload, drop header off, pump up again and get it back to the yard so we can sort it on concrete. While round the yard, I smacked the unloading auger on the corner of a shed and wrote it off.
Meanwhile the bull was ill so had to get him in and have the vet out.
Tyre and auger sorted we got going till it rained.
Bull diagnosed with vagus indigestion and took any decision about what to do out of our hands by dying on the Saturday.
Monday morning a farmhouse we let out (and had suspicions about) was raided by the police and found to be a fairly large Cannabis farm!
At least life can't be described as boring!

All shucks. Sorry about the pups. Hopefully they will get well soon. Hang in there man. I suppose I can scratch RAPPA off my list. I really like the Poly panels on them. How do the lambs look?

This one is 9 and that’s my fear. Vet was under strict instructions to speak to me after X-rays and before doing any treatments. They didn’t.

Got to try with a dislocation I guess, but anything that meant she can’t do what she loves to do would be a different matter.:(
