Italy's in shut down

Yesterday the Italian National Institute of Statistics relasead some interesting data, comparing the number of deaths in Northern Italy from the 24th of February 2020 to the 21st of March 2020 to the average of the same period for 2015-19: it has more than doubled.

In particolar, the city of Bergamo went from an average of 110 to 430 in 2020.

This is probably a significative data as it catches all the people dying at home without being tested and the people dying of other causes due to late access to treatments.

Can I apologise on behalf of the rest of Devon for that arrogant f**kwit's behaviour? We're not all like him. I asked him politely on another thread to have a little more thought about what he writes and the manner in which he puts it across, but it had no effect. So now, as some else has already said, I just think the man's a c***
Its healthy to have ones thoughts challenge,
And it certainly helps to be able to come on here and discuss the issue with people without any risk of x contamination

indeed it is. But he’s blithering on and on about the same thing as if he’s preaching to children. We’re all aware that economically, this is going to hurt. We’ll all be worse off. But some will lose close family too. A bit of empathy with that is all I’m asking.

What will be really interesting is the crew of the, aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt, if there is a will to isolate and test them all. I would imagine their age ranges from 18 to 60 ish
The death of doctors in Italy is high, and we have had about 4, I think in the UK. Is it because doctors are in really close contact with patients, but nurses are usually in contact for longer, or are they not using the PPE properly.
The Koreans are sure everyone using facemasks prevents the spread before the symptoms start. The guy on the video is really tactful about the WHO line on masks.
Report also said that 80 odd out of 93 had symptoms. This in the main , would be a young fit men. So no 50% symptomless there. Do the USA not have female sailors? They must do , so it's not just the fact that men are more susceptible.

Scotland has 50 more deaths today , a total to date yesterday of 76 so a two thirds rise in a day. I've just seen that 100 are dead in Wales today.

Sweden is down today at 43 deaths from 59 yesterday , but there's really nowhere that has sidestepped this.
Norway seems to be keeping a lid on it quite well after a big start to cases.

Hi you seem well up on this CV19.

As a rule of thumb from what I can make out if one needs to go to hospital that is not good news, if one needs a respirator that is even worse news and one should maybe start pondering the afterlife, and if in the ICU that is as good as one foot on the stairway to heaven.

I make brevity as I come to terms with it. But does that seem a reasonable summation. Looks pretty dire to me. And yes I fall into the vulnerable age group. And I now have fingernails for first time in 53 years and hands that are as lily white as a bays bottom!

Best wishes,

Other nutters are available. Imagine believing in a kind of God who kills 50,000 around the world just to warn Northern Ireland.

And to think three years ago Mrs May gave these jokers £1bn. Wonder if in his political role he ensured the local council purchased PPE in advance!

If it's true that 4 out of 5 die on ventilators , then it only reinforces the need to stay at home. We don't have much else to fire back with.

It's really making me wonder what to do next . Yesterday I went and got milk at a local farm shop place , as that was all I needed- so saved a trip into a shop.
You go in buy a ( pricey ! ) bottle - pay by card and press a few buttons , and there ye go!

Very high tech. Hand sanitizer provided. Wait in car until shop is empty - no hoooman in shop at all.
However had a wee chat with owner ( at a distance of course ) on way out - and learned that local farmer's daughter has had it ( she's an NHS physio) , and now her vet hubby might have it.

Hi, thanks for the reply. Are there any figures on recoveries after hospitalisation? And any figures on survival once onto respirators / ICU? The impression I get from Italy and the look of that Excel centre is a conveyor belt to sedation and death and out into a fridge wagon for storage. Again apologies for my blunt less than deferential tone. Just that I am sort of preparing myself. As there are no supportive drugs, seems very much as if it ones genetics and immune system against CV19. Evidently Mr Johnson and Hancock had good genetics. Hey ho.

BBC reported that the excel centre was to be used for less critical cases, which would suggest they expect a large proportion of those to recover

The figure of 135 recoveries in the UK hasn't been updated in what seems like weeks. I guess they have better things to do.
This disease seems quite random. Nadine Dorries ( 61 I think ) said that her 84 yr old mother , who lived with her , threw it off quicker than she did . I've seen a picture of the mother in a wheelchair !

On the other hand BBC Scotland TV news did an interview with a girl from Prestwick ( 7 miles from me ). They didn't say what age she was but I'm guessing under 30. She was a dance teacher and so quite fit , but said she had difficulty in breathing at one point but had recovered over about 10 days. Still couldn't take a Zumba class yet ( on line ) she said.

Worldwide 203,000 recoveries from the 961,000 cases. I think the Chinese required a negative virus test ( maybe two?) or a good chest scan to be put in that category. Other countries probably not.

S Korea which is very concientious about the whole business say they have almost 60% ( from 9,900 cases ) recovered.

I'm told via the grapevine that S. Korea is already lifting some restrictions.

Good info here (sorry if someone has posted this before ) BUT .only watch it if you really want to know what actually happens inside your lungs , should you react badly to getting the virus
To be honest it made me feel bad  so I dont recommend you do in the main !!

LOL it categorically would not be holy water and crucifixes for the DUP.
Praise the Lord but keep your powder dry. :) A mate said he visited an elderly couple he gardens for at the height of the panic buying, and their house was stocked up with piles of essential goods like the survivalist couple in Tremors. The husband is a local church elder, so presumably it is all justified.
