Italy's in shut down

Not sure I'd put much faith in those figures to be honest. China has done its best to blur the numbers and Iran is no better. It's not about death rates anyhow: Stick an extra 1000 sick people into your local hospital and see what happens.

My biggest worry is that if we have to quarantine people in their homes either here or the US is the crime/looting along with resentment towards the services that may happen.

That's a very good point (both point's)

Spanish flu, killed the younger, the older generation had 'some' natural immunity. I think most are agreed that it isn't going to kill 25 million people, like Spanish flu. The really scary bit, is how it's going to affect world trade, already the fronterra dairy auction has dropped substantially, due to it, whole cities are in lockdown, 1,000's ill. not working, out put will go down, as factories either slow down, or stop. Movement of goods, has already been effected, why ? price of fuel has dropped, Chinese not buying, s/mkts in the EU already have empty shelves, i'm afraid the worst is yet to come, which is the real reason, gov's are panicking. The risk of a global recession is very high.

Its virtually certain that a previous far less serious strain of Spanish Flu had been through some years earlier, which had conferred immunity on the older population. It is also likely that this previous epidemic had never reached the America's where Spanish Flu was taken home by troops returning from WW1, with devastating consequences

Also, the younger stronger people had a stronger immune system that over-reacted (e.g. filling lungs with fluid) and it was this that killed.

think some are missing the point once towns/borders are shut then the issue becomes a food problem. UK replies so much on global foods. If countries start slowing down lorries, spraying, checking you are talking delays and costs. Its already affecting the markets https://www.ft.com/content/5ec9aeae-56a1-11ea-a528-dd0f971febbc Food buying panics https://www.afp.com/en/news/15/ital...e-queue-food-coronavirus-outbreak-doc-1p81yn2

Lets not forget the NHS has no free beds, where are these people going to go? Not talking the healthy but those infirm and at risk.

All very well to laugh about it but wont be funny if a member of your family got ill.

if the virus takes hold and the world shut down then the 07/8 recession was a walk in the park in comparison

to contain it shutting down regions like in Italy is the only option but that may be too late

on an individual basis wash hands do not put hands near mouth or eyes only eat hot food and drink hot drinks or those containing alcohol no ice

I'm just hope that the Vegan bandwagon doesn't try ,by some means, to link it to livestock however tenuously just to cause doubt and mischief !

Is it a coincidence that China and Iran have had the most cases, one is the US’s biggest economic rival the other their biggest enemy, releasing a virus far easier to do and get away with.
They have quite a few economic ties so I would say it is the fact that quite a few Iranians travel to China and back.

Time they admitted it got out their weapons lab. Nobody has been told the truth where this genie popped out from to necessitate Chinese running around in hazmats. Watch the shelves empty and cash machines run dry. Don't be left behind.
