IW Trailer with combi doors

We are wondering about a new trailer and I have long thought a set of combination or barn doors would be really very useful on the farm. The ability to lob a pallet or IBC in the trailer easily is the motive.

I think I might have seen one on a show ground somewhere, but never one out "in the wild".

Do the doors work, and do they last...? I don't envisage a massive amount of work in the future, but this does seem to ebb and flow over the years :)

Depends on size of trailer you get, but it advises putting the load over the axle. With a fork lift you may not be able to reach far enough in on the longer trailers with a telehandler you can reach as far over a normal door

Likely cheaper to get hold of a spare flatbed trailer that can carry that odd IBC on occasion?
True, and something to be considered. I do like carting stuff in a stock trailer though, dry, and no roping or sheeting needed.

I used to do a lot of contract slug pelleting and ATV spraying, and the IW was perfect, as I could lock up the chems when on the job. Needed in one or two areas....

That's the one. I'd want a good look at the tailgate before a purchase to assess the design...

I'd say any good fork lift driver can "skid" a pallet up the trailer floor. In much the same way as I do with pallets with the Kramer tele which doesn't have a huge reach :)

I have an IW box trailer ,10 x 5, with the combi ramp/doors. Bought new in 2017. It's a good tool for going off to pick smaller stuff up, but tbh the width of the doors, because of the frame within the ramp, comprises it's agricultural usefulness, here anyway. The doors only open through 90°which limits how close it is possible to get with a set of forks on a standard width loader or telehandler. Maybe the stock trailer versions have had these niggles sorted?

The doors on the stock version go to 180° ...

Any issues with stabilty and coming loose at all?

No issues with either stability or coming loose. I wouldn't be the tallest bloke ever, but I struggle to get into the trailer through the doors without my head hitting the frame of the door above it, which is pretty nasty tbh.
I'd say that it is a far , far better thing when using the ramp than when using the doors, my only gripe would be that there seems to be no simple way to tighten the springs up, in order to lighten the ramp. The doors on this one open wider than 90°, but will only fasten open at that angle.

The doors on the stock trailer don't look like they have a bar across top
