Jalex Farm Sale

Usual fancy well turned out sheep. A lot of them making 220 to 250 that I saw sold. Higher priced ones early in the sale. Surprised to see them being sold in 1s 2s and 5s thought they would have all been 10s or 12s as most breeding sales are. Could be argued that they are over advertised and promoted so much it puts the commercial buyers off going near it but they're not needed anyway.

I watched a few small lots of Suffolk x gimmers get just under the £300 mark. Can someone please explain too me how commercial x bred shearlings are worth that much? Surely all they will breed is fat lambs? They didn’t look the type of sheep too produce tups?! Happy too be corrected though?!

Madness isn’t it. But maybe they have a 10 year or 20 lamb guarantee on the them.

As the late George Robson who was as shrewd a stock man as you could have met once told me when we were having a discussion about BFL when they came here at first, a lot of the folk buying these sheep are sheep fanciers rather than sheep farmers, we have an abundance of wealthy part time farmers here who just want to be seen to be buying dear stock.
