We've got a few deals going on plasmas at the moment, whats the max thickness you're needing to cut?

Who knows, , 10/12 mm would do most things. I guess its a trade off between power and price and actual amount of use.
I is sorely tempted by the sub £200 ones advertised on the bay

I see, they can be a bit of a chance those £200 ones. If you get one they can either work for ages or blow up within the first few minutes and if they do the latter then you'll struggle with back up.
Personally, I'd be considering spending a little bit more for warranty + backup. Something around £500-600 gets you a quality product with very good back up.

Have you considered a GCE Gladius 40?

All good machines, for simplicity I like the 160P GYS and its very simply made which I quite like.
Its also French made rather than Chinese.

The parweld has a little bit more posh bits about it like the digital control and display, which some like..
