hi has anyone tried running a 2cx compressor on the front linkage and pto of a tractor? does tractor pto turn the right way?

cheers

Front pto turns the wrong way, unless you have it specked the same rotation as the rear.

If it's just the same idea as a small workshop compressor, with pistons and one-way valves, then it should pump the same whichever way it's turning.. However lubrication would be my worry, whether it's by pump or some sort of splash system.
And if the compressor works by vanes or rotary screw, then it would definitely suck!

I will shut up now, as I'm well out of my experience zone, and quite possibly speaking sh1te!

if the compressor did turn the oposite way to a front pto could you not rig up an idler gear system.
another option you could make a frame and using a shaft with belts a nd 2 pulleys drive it from the opposite side. the one in the pic isn't finished but it gives you an idea

I've the same compressor and thought of doing the same:) if you put a pto on either end of the shaft you could drive it with a front or rear pto.

Hi, did you manage to get the compressor working. I've got one which I intend to fit on rear pto. I was told by JCB that the 2cx airmaster pto turns in the opposite way to normal tractor. This is because its driven with a straight shaft straight from engine, doesn't go through any gearbox. I'm going to use a gearbox from a pto generator which will alter rotation and increase speed so I will need less engine revs.

these compressors do run opposite way round to rear pto, we have run one for a few years and we fitted a gearbox to reverse the direction, the gearbox also speeds it up a bit, tractor has to run at 800 rpm on the shaft. very good compressor just keep an eye on the oil level and don't let the slurry run back into it!!
Could do with another one or two if anyone has one for sale??

Have you gone off the Bristol type compressors?

Hi I have put it on front links and that is the right direction for it. It's just to slow on direct drive. I need to put a pulley on it to speed it up but not found out what speed I need the compressor to turn at.

They are on eBay quite often.
