Now Then..
Did a dealer plug the tool in?? If so he should soon have it going. What you describe sounds like a flat battery. Our Qashqai did the same on Wednesday, new battery on and it's away ?

Prior to mechanic using dealer tool to plug in, it ran OK but had a stream of errors. After unplugged, went to start it, no movement. Non runner. When ignition switched to position 1, everything g lights up, but all dials flick rhythmically from left to right.

No voltage through diagnostic plug.

Update,

Battery voltage sat at 9.2 volt, would have thought it would have attempted to start, or at least something when turning the key, but not even a click, but strangely lights didn't dim or anything.

Any action if you waggle the shuttle lever while holding the key in start position? We had to put a new shuttle lever on ours after a period of eraticness.
Can you rig up a wire from the battery positive to the activate terminal on the starter? Assume battery now 13.5v ?

Hi spud

Yes battery fully loaded, tried wiggling the shuttle. Will try a 12v feed to the starter tomorrow. Its got power to the starter it just won't flipping well start

Voltage on battery should by ish 12Volts. when crank engine should go to 9-10 Volts. Fit multimiter on battery and check voltage when you cranck. If its lower then battery is weak or starter motor is worn and using to much power. You can try to put jump leads from another machine to have good pawer sorce. Did engine crank when turn ignition? If yes is is fast or slow? But if your guage goes from side to side i will say that you have CAN bus error. I have on one machine that CAN Bus wire to dash was broken. Pull dash and check wiring behind. Did you check all your fuses?? Try to swop places relays, just be careful when swop relays have many legs they have and swop with the same number legs. If you can recognize CAN bus wires on dash, check voltage.

Fully charged battery should be 12.6 - 12.7v. Under cranking no less than 11.3v. This is essential on a common rail engine, less so on a mechanically injected motor. From your descriptions you have more than just a low cranking voltage though.
