Jcb 4220 or fendt 722/724.

The 4220 has the old fendt gearbox not the same one a 720/722 & 724 it is a 718 box in a 4220, big software difference from fendt to jcb as well
I was told this also agco don't allow the transmission in the fastrac to to run at same pressure as it does in a Fendt. Which makes fastrac not as good.

Apparently the pressure can be altered and it makes a difference to the fastrac.

We are getting a 722 demo early February if we have work for it. Be interesting to try it.
Don’t hear of many Jcb having transmission problems where fendt you do. Around the 10000hr mark depending on drivers
We were like you thought about a fastrac to do all them job , but wheel grip in poor conditions spreading slurry let it down a lot, cab & its set out is a long way behind the fendt so was the gearbox, big down side was the second hand value of the fastrac & the warranty & reliability , this was 3 years ago or so they make have got better but I think we did the right thing buying a 724 not a 4220

something has stopped me a few time changing from fendt to Jcb but it always think maybe next time. I do a fair bit of road work. And roads are getting worse

I was speaking to a jcb man who told me the only difference is jcb are limited to how much hp they can put into the fendt box and that's 220 so even if you give the tractor more hp it won't make any odds due to software in the control unit for the gearbox.

There's ways round it according to rumour but I've not had to find out if it's right or not yet

I’ve had a price for a new 6185r deere and a price for a 720 fendt and the fendt is cheeper. I’m not a fendt driver and I’m not that familiar with speck but the fendt os a power plus and has basic gps. Deere was steer ready but no receiver.
Was the 720 gen6 at that or the old layout?

We had a rough price on a 724 but after hating it on demo it never went any further but it was in the same region I think it was a profi from memory but wasn't really interested so can't remember the spec
Bloody heck you hated a 724 i thought they were seen as the mutts nuts ?
and folk wonder why id still rather have a Massey with a borrowed fendt trans in it.. heheee

I run 2 4220s, but mainly on transport work, fertilising etc, and not high hours, (both about 2000) but no major problems so far.
I would say if you are doing a lot of land work then a normal tractor would be a better bet due to the larger rear tyres, but otherwise I would say they are great due to the suspension and balance.
We also run a 7 year old 936 which is the dogs whatsits, but I would still take the 4220 for a road trip.

Found it very illogical compared to Deere and also underpowered and underweight just generally underwhelming really.

Not everyone is a fendt fanboy I'd take a new Holland or a case before 1

Also even if it was the best thing since sliced bread the dealer would put us off having 1.

V difficult to sway the hardened Deere men to any other brand eh.
I wouldnt have a Deere if i was given one. but each too there own i guess.
Fact tho the Fendts are the most valuble on the used market.
yet are often no more money new than them deeres.
Hey ive got Masseys so i'll just keep out of it. & local dealer is now also in bed with Valtra & ive no intentions of switching too them neither :scratchhead:

If I was a hardened JD man I wouldn't currently be driving a jcb tho and it's not the first excursion away from JD's either but unfortunately we seem to keep having to go back to them .

As for you not having one when did you last try one ? 🤣

The Massey job could get a bit better round here now but I think the fendt dealer will likely be pushing more fendt into his previous MF customers

Seems a bit hard to sway a loyal MF owner too. ;) I've no loyalty and that is great when looking for new tractors, lots to choose from.

a gutless 6820 i think it was.... just never fancied one esp after that.
were a right odd bunch tho.
Now got the choice of two Massey Dealers both further away than previous one.

I can understand the hardened JD mindset- I was one once. Everything to hand, great engines, visibility, could get mine anywhere etc etc etc but the three wheel drive was an issue (probably solved now to be fair- haven't tried in recent years) and lastly the cab interior just hasn't kept up with the times. There is no space for fudging anything. Where does my bag go...errr......?
