JCB 434/416 opinions

As thread suggests, I'm looking opinions/expierence of 434's or 416's using them up to and over the 10k hour mark.

Any common problems that might occur pre or after 10k hours or common problems to look out for when buying one as we're probably looking for one around 5/6k hours.

We currently run a TM310s on the pit so either one will be a fair step up but we're leaning towards a 434 for lasting up to and sticking the pace at higher hours as its a heavier duty machine.

TIA

I agree a 434 is a heavy duty loader that should do 10,000 hrs, most 416 loader are worn out before 10,000 , I had a 416 and it was well worn at 7000 hrs. I’d compare them to having chocolate steel.

That's what we're thinking. And a 416 is more likely to have been pushed hard to do 434 work. Was it pins and bushes were wearing on yours?

I hear diffs are a common problem on a 416 whereas theres heavier axles in the 434.

Yes ours was bought new and greased every day , but there was a lot of play in the bushings when I traded it in, the diff units last about 6-7000 hours , I had one go in a 414 at 5000 hours , the bearing went in the back axle where the shaft comes out of the axle , I was lucks as I was loading in the yard when it went and I stopped straight away, but I know of one that went on the road and it blew up the axle. All in all a soft machine , I have komastu now and they are a differant league.

I’ve pushed in grass with a 414s with over 10’000 hours, they are as good as any other high houred well maintained machine
had you any notable breakdowns? I've seen ones with well over 10k hours advertised but wonder what breakdowns and costs it took to get them there.

Our TM310 at over 10k hours has had injectors and dropbox trouble which is a common occurrence so we've been told but these only occured from 6k hours upwards so since we're buying a shovel around them hours now, it would be good to know whats ahead of us:unsure::ROFLMAO:

I don't know much about them because they're not actively sold for pushing grass up here but there seems to be plenty in the south.

What would be a good model say the same age, size as a 434?

what hours are you getting out of them?

A 414 at 10,000 hrs has had both axles rebuilt costing about €5000 each and the injector pump is probably rebuilt as well. The electrics are probably in bits , lights not working , air con gone , door handle replaced . Drive shaft in front of the back axle replaced , buy a wrong one and you need a lot of money to straighten it out.

You are rough with your kit James fair play. Try looking after it and it will get to 10000 hours easy

Actually , no , the 416 I bought new was serviced and greased every day . The problem with it was build quality , it was made out of rubbish, I traded in my 5 year old komastu this year and it was the very same as new in every way , I was allowed €100 k for it as it was so good .

Did you only buy the K as the Volvo & JCb were to expensive for you , I mind any email from you saying you wised you could buy a volvo for the price we had for one ,
