Don't you think the top half of the door open makes you more aware of your surroundings whilst carrying out yard work? Just like having the front window open on a excavator?

As apposed to having the doors closed and the radio blaring
No, just fills the cab with muck and dust.
Excavating is different as less dust etc.
Also, in general, the only people I’ve found to leave top half open are those who mainly drove them pre air-con (like my father, although even he’s stopped now) or smokers, who tend to have the air-con on at the same time as the window open, fag in mouth!

the radio blaring with the top window open isn’t any different with extra engine noise. New forklift turned up at Xmas and old One broke down a week before it was due to go, dealer kindly leant us a trade in machine that kept us feeding stock which had had the door removed as it had been caught coming back to the yard. Never felt more exposed to someone rear ending you throwing you clear. Wore the seat belt the whole time just didn’t feel right though

I have a 530-70 and I never shut the top half unless it’s raining , I am always hopping in and out feeding cattle or loading trailers with the forks , for the work I’m doing the top half open is a better job, but every job is differant.

how is it safer? I didn’t realise JCB offer a doorless entry on the options list. Convenient maybe, safer no.

I am far more likely to have minor bumps, scrapes and whacks from flapping doors when getting and off round the buildings, especially so if it’s windy. Much less risk of minor injury with the whole door off and also more audible awareness of what’s going on around you on the yard.

In a road or field situation then I do admit that a fully closed door is better. But 90% of my work involves frequently getting on and off the machine, often in confined spaces, and nobody has yet convinced me that continuously opening and closing doors is safer.

Good thing I don’t want a job on your farm then!
I wouldn’t work on any farm that would have me as a worker anyway.
I just don’t understand why people spend a fortune on kit then treat it like crap.
Is it so hard to keep it clean and tidy.
Incidentally, that guy would wash his own pickup twice a week, and never smoke in it, yet he felt it was fine to smoke in all my vehicles as they were just “tools”.
I constantly told him the standards I expected, and things didn’t change, so he had to go.
