I have a 2012 JCB531-70 (11000 hrs)with a 4 speed power shift it started to have issues with gears missing and as this had happened before and we had put new gear solenoids on we did the same again unfortunately this time it hasn’t cured the problem sometimes you can get all the gears other times possibly 4 and 2 forward and 4 reverse only other times nothing. What should I be looking at any suggestions please?

We’ve a similar problem on an older 530/70 but still 4 speed gearbox which I’d imagine would be the same.

Changed all 3 solenoids, gear lever in cab but made no difference. Ours generally works ok in 1st and 3rd forward and 2nd reverse. 2nd and 4th forward seem to come back to life once box has warmed up but can take an hour or so to do it.

my guess is there’s some seals that have gone hard in the box not letting the selectors move correctly, but as I’ve never had one in bits it’s difficult to say. You can kind of feel it trying to engage almost like the clutch is slipping so try to avoid it doing that. Needs sorting as it bloody annoying.

yours sounds like a low pressure issue, as you say hard seals not sealing till oil warm, manitous are common for this. it'll be a gearbox overhaul job.

Hi guys

i have a JCB 526 56 Agri 2012 with 4 speed powershift gear change twist on the forward and reverse stalk and 7000 hours with the jcb 444 engine

the fault is with forward gears 1 and 3 everything else is fine.

i have just purchased this from Hillview plant who said it was fine when it arrived the driver couldn’t unload it as he was trying to line it up and when driving forwards gears 1 and 3 didnt work.
Anyway having had it working as our yard handler i have got to understand it better
Hot or cold makes little difference but 90% of the time from startup forward gears 1 and 3 result in no forwards movement. All reverse gears are fine.
But if i rev it to maximum after a few seconds she will come to life and jolt forwards in 1 and 3 gears.
after she has come to life all gears are fine.
but after it’s parked up overnight the same fault happens again.
