Hi, I'm going to look at a 536-60 Agri Super 2013 today. Looking to upgrade from our 530-70 construction spec 2006.

Is there anything to look out for on these machines? Its done 5100 hours.

Thanks!

I bought a 536.60 in 2016
problems to date
1 new turbo
2 seized engine
3 numerous ad blue issues
fortunately all under warranty
oh and the paintwork is terrible

Sounds like you've been unlucky there! How many hours had it done?

A neighbour bought a brand new maitou last year. Needed a new gearbox after less than 1000 hours. I would say like you they were also unlucky

Sold a 2014 last year with 5500 hours. Variable turbo actuator replaced under warranty and that was about it. Good machine, crap paint as usual with JCB -they should be ashamed. The peculiar areas to look at with the 536 60 are the comp ram pins. They are not good at greasing all the way round and rotate shearing off the retaining bolts. The pins work loose and if you are unlucky will damage various bits if a ram breaks loose. - Got the t shirt on an 08 model, and kept an eye on it since.

Have a 2014 531-70 now at 5000hrs. Been 99% reliable. I am very OCD with maintenance.

Paintwork esp cab is utterly shocking. Make seller repaint what needs it and be prepared for it to just flake off!
Electrical issues- can be issues of wires rubbing especially infront of the cab behind the washer bottle - had ours apart to clean the straw n muck out and by chance found 3 or 4 rubbing wires.
Speedo sensor on trans just dies bi-annually- £70.
Boom lift ram pin at base of ram at back of machine doesnt get grease unless you take weight off boom- wears ram & pin, nightmare to get apart if that happens- same with boom end of ram. Also check base of compensator ram behind the pickup hitch- never greased usually.
Can have starting problems caused by corrosion to maxi fuses on top of battery.
Common railers can have injector failure.
6 speed box is abit weak and must have 500hr oil changes to last. Other boxes are strong.

Anything that's spent it life on a dairy farm or plainly not been loved avoid.

Our 2012 machine has been good also, up to 3000 hrs all it had was a hand break sensor, around 4000hrs the fan belt tensioner failed and now at 5000 hrs we’ve changed the electric fuel pump. New tyres at 4500 hrs.

Sounds like JCB have gone down hill in the last 10 years, the early 2000,s were better. Knowing these machines are around sh!t a lot of the time, it important to have good paint, why would a company doing well skimp on this?

So had a look at it today and seems a straight well looked after machine 1 owner thTs hasn't given it a hard life and full main dealer servicing upto 5000 hours.

Only a few niggles which are this error code that pops up in the pic bellow. Reading on here that other people are saying its linked to the turbo/actuator. And also it seems a little sluggish to start but I know there not as quick as the perkins in our 530/70. Seen that Timbo has already said that could be the maxi fuses.

It’s power coated black, the yellow seems good just black is shite as as soon as it chips it flakes off,
I’ve got a 526 with the first of the Jcb engines and I highly rate the Jcb engine over the Perkins.

An extended cranking time and no response from the throttle on first press immediately after start up is perfectly normal on the common rail. Mine does it and there's a sticker on the dash about it.

That fault code is loss of comms with the vgt actuator- could be unit itself or damaged wiring - check its not melted on exhaust or rocker cover

Yeah I know what you mean! Our current 530/70 is construction spec so will be a huge upgrade for me and hopefully make life a little more enjoyable. Just want to get this error code cleared up as reading stuff about it being to do with turbos sounds like £££££ to me
