If someone at JCB is watching this can you please change the grease nipple on the back of the boom ram to an angled 1 so you can get to it easier.

The last one was the same after they started fitting this big square hydraulic block it's a right pain to get to I'm pretty sure they could fit an angled nipple so you access it from the back rather than squeezing round the corner of the hydraulic block and under a pipe !!!!!!

@DCM did you get your ‘boom twitch’ sorted?
It is alot better now than what It was. Long story short, the problem with the spacer plate was becausethe outer boom was welded incorrectly. When it was replaced, it included a new pivot pin, packed with shims either side of it. It has reduced the twitching, but it is still to be monitored over time.

Are you happy with the outcome? Do you think the shims will last? Ours twitches but not from any incorrect welding from what I can see. Shims have been suggested for our machine as well. I am not happy with it as they can’t give me a straight reason why it is doing it. Something must be stressing somewhere?

I wouldn't say I am overly happy of the process. I was promised to be informed of the process, and that I would be asked to view the machine and make comment or suggest amendments before it was sent away to be 're painted. But after several weeks of hearing nothing, I inquired as to the progress of the problem solving, to be told that the machine was to be returned to me that afternoon from the paint shop.

After the machine returned, I was informed that it could be 're plumbed to the same configuration as a 536, but lift capacity would be lost as a result.

Like you, I am nervous of the longevity of the shims, and where the resultant forces are being exerted, but this is monitored.

I will get a video for you at the next opportunity to demonstrate the difference.

To be fair, the area rep did visit and explained things at the time, apologising profusely, assuring us that our issues would be addressed. Everything else has been resolved, but I reserve judgement on the shims at the moment. Have you spoken to your area rep?

I have not spoken to our area rep yet as I am trying to let my dealer sort it out. I am just not sure shims are the answer -feels like it’s not solving anything. We also have movement in the pin that holds the two compensation rams on the boom.

I had movement on the compensatory rams. They were replaced, along with the pin.

Most machines have shims there of all makes going back to old matbros and sandersons, you cant expect them to make every chassis tight thats why they use shims.

Gotta ask what are you doing to notice this twitch ?

Ours is very rarely moving slow enough to see a little movement like that or is it just me that's not looking for it ?🤷‍♂️

See it when hooking on attachments or when edging in to pallets. But you can also feel it.
