JCB Battery

The original battery on our TM320S was replaced under warranty in the first year we owned the machine, when we had issues with the cold engine cranking throwing up error codes. The diagnostics showed low voltage when the engine turns over for extended time before starting. This did not solve the problem and a few other things were changed as well, including starter motor, earthing straps around cab and chassis. The problem now is that after another 4 years the battery on the machine is knackered again, not helped by the dealer coming to service the machine at 2000 hours and leaving the radio and ignition on all day long with his laptop plugged in which meant it needed jump starting at the end of the day to get it back in the shed. Are these JCB batteries generally not good enough? Our Fendt tractor has only just needed a battery on it after 9 years and 6000 hours. Do we replace with a higher amp/hour battery?

Sadly i dont believe the Genuine JCB starter motor on there JCB engines is a genuine Iskra Mahle but a copy made in Turkey. A Genuine Iskra mahle starter for me to buy costs about the same as JCB retail last time i looked and the JCB starter had turkey writen on it. A genuine mahle might not be any better? i dont know as i never sold one as not competitive but it pees me off big companies like jcb etc are supporting direct copies, visually they look identical! Different story of cause when its the other way round and someone is copying JCB, they dont like it then!

Poor starter motors are normally the route cause of short battery life i find.

As above poor starters but jcb batteries are junk from experience. I don't know where they get them from but they must be a good money spinner for them as long as they are lasting the guarantee period. If you get the extra heavy duty batteries from jcb which are 2 inches taller you'll find the bottom 2 inches of the battery is actually hollow 🤣

Don’t think I’ve ever replaced a battery on Jcb handler

Our tm310s has always been a slow turner when it's cold. Has had a new varta battery on it which didn't improve the situation. The old battery had a loose plate so it was sudden death.

Are you saying that genuine Mahle might not be any better than the JCB version? Are the Mahle only ones different to the Iskra Mahle?

That is something i noticed recently on a genuine CAT battery! it was a 663 type with decent specs. i took them both out of the machine to gain access, nothing wrong with them but they both had a 2" hollow underneath 🤣 not noticed it on a jcb imo, there is several jcb batteries all very similar in size and would all probably fit a TM310 but they all vary in cranking amps and ah ratings. i dont actually find genunie JCB batteries any worse than others IMO

Iskra was bought by Mahle years ago but everyone keeps calling them Iskra including me. Not every machine no, they are very limited on the jap type starters, but Perkins, New holland, JD, MF, JCB, manitou, Deutz, Case, IH and so on then yeah Mahle covers an awful lot of machines and is often fitted from OEM now in some cases.

I'm saying i dont know if the genuine iskra/mahle JCB engine starter motor is any better than the turkish built copy that JCB supply. There is a good chance it is but its the one starter i have never been able to sell due to price. Iskra bought mahle years ago but everyone still calls them Iskra. I tend to refure to them as Iskra Mahle because if i just said Mahle most people wouldnt have a clue what i was on about.

dunno what was on my from new merlo in 2005 but i think it lasted 5yr & dealer fitted a better one whatever it(Its Starter Motor) was, anyhow its still on it & the machine is coming up 17yr old
starts on the button ever since. its had about 3 batteries mind but i dont mind that.
Yuasa 5yr warranty one still on atm & it will nearly be about that old by now & had no bother with them atall.
Used them on tractors etc etc here
I never buy Dealers OEM batteries now as none give 5yr warranty for a start i found & those who do the diff is the price is peanuts.
Buy the best you can source & if poss try to get a higher cap one if it will fit in the same place that never does any harm.

be a perkins in 2005 and was around the time they used a crap Denso starter, shortly after perkins ditched it and used genuine Iskra.

JCB stupidly still sell the Denso as an option or at least they did a couple of years ago :X3: 🤣

If it was genuine thats a very very good price, unless they come down in price in the last 18months or so i think my cost was double that?

You do find people advertising so called starters under the iskra or mahle part numbers but when you look at the deals they are suppling a copy.

Do you know if they do one for a Cummins in a case sprayer

Probably, but i would need some details to cross ref it, like a case part number or any other number thats on the old starter, or a tractor model you know it fits. I doubt i woul dfind it under the sprayer model number IMO but thats also worth a shot.

You refer to genuine and jcb supplied turkish copy etc. One thing to consider is that a company as big as jcb will dictate to a company how much they are gonna pay for something and its up to the smaller company whether they can supply at that cost, want to supply at that cost or cheapen the item to gain the business. Now those in the rose tinted specs world don't like to believe this but it's how the big business world works. Your turkish copy may well be genuine but built cheaper and possibly don't want to put name on it.
