JCB Dung Grabs

Looking for a Dung grab for a loader tractor.
Alo 1.7m with KV tines £1500
JCB 1.7m with Hardox tines £1600
Prodig 1.8m with Hardox tines £1985.

Had a look at the Alo today and didn’t look that strong.
The JCB one looks good value, anyone know who makes them - any good?

Eastern Attachements I believe, I have an Eastern badged Hardox grab, well built and does what it says on the tin

Wouldn't have bolt in tines again, one broke off on our shear grab, jammed, and wrote off a gearbox on the Shelbourne diet feeder, £4500! Good old NFU though! All our grabs are Hardox, even got a couple of Hawkfawks from the nineties still going strong.

JCB one look good value then. Presumably the same as the X form ones?

Will the jcb not be built for a telehandler? Unless it's a big loader tractor it could be heavy built for a tractor.

Apparently the smaller ones are built for loader tractor. Comes with euro brackets.
1.7m is only 5ft 6

Bigger grabs are xform not so sure on smaller ones? Thought eastern had discontinued them small loader ones years ago?

Post a pic of it will soon see if its xform or not.

We have a JCB grab, not as good as the one we had before, can't remember what make it was. The main points we don't like:
You can't see the end of the tines as the back plate is solid.
The tine beam has 4x wear plates underneath which means it doesn't clean the floor properly.
The grab has no cross bars in the top so doesn't squeeze and clamp the muck.
The grab tines don't go close to meeting the bottom tines (no problem for muck only but we use it for other things).

Having said that, it is built to last and all the makes when we looked were a similar design with the same failings, and were cheaper than new hardox tines in the old grab, as they were worn well down.

If the Jcb one is made by eastern attachments it will be a good piece of kit.[emoji106] The Alo. One will be ok but made in China.

Eastern attachments grabs are also sold by cherry products and branded as X form. They're named after the type of steel used which is far stronger and lighter others.

I have a GS76 model intended for a small telehandler, though it was factory fitted with euro hooks (bought it second hand with all the paint still on the tines). It is also sold in JCB logo. The eastern attachments/X form/JCB branded versions are definitely the strongest and best designed in my opinion.

Grab opens completely, and the backplate has cutouts if you need to see a tine. Rams are protected behind the backplate, not vulnerably mounted on top. If bits fall out when you're mucking out, it's because you've just not taken a big enough grab full!

It's also light in weight; with as big a bite of dung as it will hold, a Quicke Q5M loader has lift capacity to shove it to full height without a struggle.

There's no such steel as Xform, its just a name they made up. They use Domex steel umm used to be 450 i think?? but was then changed to a higher grade.

Well I swallowed the marketing hype hook line and sinker

They are bloody good attachments though would you not agree?

Have you looked at Strimech? We’ve got several buckets etc of theirs and all seem well made, had no problems.

Well, went to look today and they couldn’t find the JCB grabs - must have been at the other depot!
But they had a 6ft Strimech which was a bit shop soiled that they did for the same money.
I am pretty pleased really considering this was only £110 more than a 5ft Alo with KV tines.
Going to need plenty of weight on the back I think, but at least it will stick being used on Manitou if we want to at some point
