JCB Fastrack 4220 Questions

On the Joystick's black buttons which can be programed for various functions, can you put Hyd. spool extend on the rear and FLOAT on the front button for say baler pickups mowers etc (we have Fendts)?

CTV Trans Control: In Manual mode - using joystick to speed up slow down, then set Rev hold for PTO speed (baling etc), can for Round Baling you come to a stop - Active Stand Still, without brakes and be locked still on a slope (this is how I do it with Fendt)? A 4220 (which was set up for spraying) I rode in seemed to keep creeping (driver said he used drive or powershift modes). A Fendt can creep in Active Stand Still if it isn't calibrated properly.

Yes to the spools - unless it’s the same spool. For example the grey spool has a button which switches between front and rear spools, you can’t lower something at the front, work that button, then lower something at the back from the joystick. However if the front is in the grey and the back in the green it’s fine.
However for mowers I set the HMS up, otherwise you will use all 4 buttons for hydraulics. I prefer to press HMS button to lower the mowers, press again to lift the mowers (you have distance and time delays in there so they hit the ground at the right time). Then I have engine revs top left button, autosteer bottom left, 4ws delay mode top right and 4ws true track mode bottom right.
True track is good for headlands with front and rear (leaves less uncut) but too sensitive to use all the time.

As for the gearbox, not done that specifically, but I think if you held the joystick left it will come to a stop and hold without brakes, then speed up and re engage the rev hold and it’ll take off again. Not done any round baling though so someone else will be able to tell you better.

I've no idea how I had it set but I'm pretty sure I was coming to a standstill and holding it there with just the stick when round baleing on a hill when I had one on demo

Thanks for replies.
As long as I can for one rear spool put float for example on black top right and raise on bottom right thats cool.

So any disadvantages compaired to the Fendt Trans control..... I only use TMS some of the time on the road and for draft work ie: Ripping, and of course its part of pedal mode

Yes that’s fine with hydraulics.

Not driven a Fendt in 10 years and that was only for a day so can’t comment.
Never had any problems with controlling the box though. Have you demo’d one?

Round Baling ( Comby), Med Square Baling 8 x 9, little bit cultervation - Ripping, Powerharrowing,
little bit tip trailer and trailed fetiliser spreader.

Can’t comment on round baling but:

4220 on an MF2270XD here, copes fine but struggles for grip on steep hills. Drive it in manual or rev hold.
Cultivating - field cruise and manual on the headlands
Trailer - drive mode.
I find it really easy to use and set up, prefer it to the JD and the MFs I’ve used.

So Dealer had a brand new one arrive, had a play with it in their yard, seemed to active stand still alright, I've got a copy of the quick reference guide.
What is the best way to set engine revs in manual mode (to a set point by a button) say for baling, if put revs on a black button you couldn't seem to turn it off, they said use another black button set to 1000 rpm!!
Why is rev hold tied up with a cruise control, use cruise sometimes for baling but want it separate. having a bit of trouble following.
The finger tip hydraulic controls are not proportional is this correct.
In 4 wheel steer still won't turn as sharp as a conventional tractor? will check steering stops next time I look.

Engine revs: Joystick button will only set the revs id the hand throttle is slightly forwards. Cancelling the engine revs is done by moving the hand throttle back to idle.

Rev hold isn’t to cruise control - there is a rev hold cruise, but you set the engine revs separately to the memory speeds.

Fingertip spool joysticks are fully proportional.

Something wrong with the stops there I would say, unless it’s on a real narrow track and really wide tyres. Ours on 710’s turns better than the JD6125M we have.

Thanks Andrew
Now I'm starting to get some understanding.

They showed us how to move the hand throttle slightly to set the revs on button but not cancell them.

Does cruise get activated by the green joy stick button?

Apparently the wires can swapped in the joystick so speeding up and slowing down is fowards and backwoods insteed of sideways.............. for Fendt drivers!!!

The current gearbox mode is always green. When the green button is pressed it will change mode to whichever is yellow. That mode will then go green and the previous will go yellow if that makes sense?

Direction changes would then be Left and Right?

Probably a stupid question but here goes on a 4220 if I want to spread fert and maintain 540 PTO speed and drive at 14k ish how do you set it up to maintain PTO speed and sort it's own forward speed as in on a very steep uphill drop the forward speed to keep 540 ? As this is what I'm used to with autopower JD.

Use the rev hold field cruise. Go into the gearbox settings, set the target revs and the droop. Then set the max forward speed and engage

Do you have to do this every time say you went back to another mode for being on the road ? I'm hoping to try one again soon and it's stuff I like to know

Pull off the road into field. Select low box. Turn on spreader. Press the field cruise and then off you go, once set up. If you manually slowdown with the stick it will disengage, just press the green button on the stick to re engage

It will disengage the forward cruise speed to turn round at the end but will leave the engine to maintain PTO?
Then just hit the button once back into a tramline and it'll re engage?

At the end of the row if you move the stick left it will disengage the cruise and the revs will drop to what they were before you engaged - so if hand throttle is set at pto speed then they won’t drop. If you climb a hill the revs may drop though.
Then just reengage with the green button when you’re back on the row.

So no way to stop it dropping climbing a hill other than pulling the stick back manually?
