JD 4cyl 6000 series, 6300, 6400 etc

If you want a 6 cyl not easy to find but a 6506 is JD's best kept secret.(y)
I know some one who "sold" his 6400 to get a 6506, apparently double check the wiring loom under the cab to make sure its secure......

We had a 6100 with loader and was a good little tractor had from new and went to just short of 12 thousand hours before we traded, we still have a 6200 about to clock 10 thousand and still a good tractor getting a bit rough but that's mainly down to family members that shouldn't be allowed to look at a tractor never mind drive one

And just to add to likely problems are pto and diff lock solenoids which are easy to replace but also expensive, but they have changed them now so if you need replacement you will probably be given a 20 or 30 series one which I think are supposed to last longer

We've had a 6410 since 2002, bought it with about 2000 hours on and its now done almost 11,000. I'll not lie, it hasn't had the easiest life, the cross shaft needs doing, the hitch is worn out and the general appearance is looking rather weather beaten now, but overall it has given very little problems over its lifespan. Main problems we have had with it were a sensor acting up that was putting the transmission pressure warning light up and a few issues with the fuel pump in the tank. Best to just replace them and buy a new one when they go wrong. Also had a front hub fail but I am not 100% sure how it happened. Ours had a fiddle from new and it can push 50k easily on the road, very nice tractors to spend a day if maybe a little bouncy on the road due to the short wheelbase. If you find a good one, get it bought, because there aren't many left now.
