So that you can trash it, turn it upside down or leave in a ditch and not affect your no claims etc but increase the dealers insurance tenfold!!! It’s quite normal this end of the world that customer has to insure Demo and hire machines.
Yes, i heard they were like that over your way, I had a mf and fendt on demo last year, i didn,t insure them, maybe my dealer knew i would look after and respect it, had the fendt all weekend as well, mind you, i have seen tractors brought back in to dealers yards in a right state.

Why have you got to insure it, surely the dealer has it covered.

I'd always insure a demo, just in case something happens it's best to be safe. I'd rather find out it was insured by both parties than find it wasn't covered for some reason. Can't see why you wouldn't, I'm with the NFU and often it doesn't cost me anything and even if it does it's normally only a few quid.

In a normal standard police here, "lend and hire" machinery is covered at no additional fee. The premise is that it's not reoccurring, so you can't insure the neighbours tractor this way, if you use it all the time.

They say that it's like this, because we usually end up in situations where we have a breakdown in a busy time, and just call someone to get a tractor or machine so the combine don't have to wait. In that situation, most farmers don't think about insurance until something go wrong. I like that principal.

So has anyone actually had a price for one ??
Not just insured one

A friend who works for a big contractor has just bought a new 6215R at £127k on farm full spec. They had a 6250R price as well which was + £15k but decided the extra £15k was not worth it as there older 6215R's have been pretty much faultless so they are sticking with what they know rather than a newer model with extra hp they don't really need. These boys are doing 2000 hours per year easily so are working stuff very hard. They won't however have another 7R due to horrendous issues with gearbox and brakes.

How old was the troublesome 7r (first generation or later)? And what gearbox?
I would like my next tractor to be a used 7r, and have been told to avoid the first generation, but that the later ones should be ok.

I don't know what year it was/is as I am not sure if its not been disposed of but the worst one was a 7230R and then also a 7280R. My cousin had a 7280R on hire and whilst he had it for a summer the gearbox collapsed on that thing. I'd be careful if I was you.
