JD 6910 Issues!!!

Hi Folks,
I have a 2000 6910 with almost 11k hours, as far as I'm aware.

Have recently restored it along with new head gasket, a rear half shaft seal and complete service.

Everything seems to be going ok until it heats up after an hour or so of work.

When it is heated up and I bring to a stop, once I go to move again it won't just go when the clutch is let out I have to give a slight rev before it moves.

From my own perspective it's not that the clutch is slipping because I would know if that was the case but after a few calls to buddy's they seem to think it's a Power Quad fault and that it can be fixed by lifting the cab and fixing whatever the issue is.

Please note that even when the tractor has just been started and driving ok it is slightly jumpy when moving through the Power Quad gears.

Has anyone ever had this issue or similar issues regarding the Power Quad Transmission?

I have also noticed that it seems to be slightly under powered and smokey, and obvious reason for this?

Thanks in advance.

Have the injectors re-furb'd or replaced first. Do a compression test whilst they're out... Check the turbo pressure side boot isn't split.

As far as I'm aware injectors were not touched. Although once warmed up she seems to run a little rumbly according to my brother. I myself haven't done enough in it to notice. Could this relate to injectors?

Definitely... at 11,000hrs the injectors will be well past their best. Inj pump also, but start with the cheaper items.

The 6.8 should run like a watch.

True. Mechanic taking it on Tuesday and will get him to do injectors while he has it.

You know what may be the issue with power quad?

I’d say the transmission pressure switch is unplugged (top one above transmission filter), if it’s the old 30mm stile sensor it will be knackered and someone will have pulled the plug!
Which means you won’t be getting the low pressure warning due to a worn pump when the oil is hot.

I'm getting warning light tho, should have said that originally sorry lol. Talk about leaving a major part of evidence out.

Transmission pump is fooked then, will probably just be worn at them hours but worth jacking the back axles and checking for play in the halfshaft bearings. Low oil pressure will stop the enable valve engagement so it won’t select a direction. Revving it up increases the oil flow/pressure. It worth doing a full pressure test before pulling it apart though in case it’s got a leak on the mfwd, pto, or any quad clutches.
