JD 7R tractors

Hi,

Thinking of changing our magnum310 for a used JD 7R tractor. Not sure which model 7290/310. I noticed while having a look around that these tractors have been suffering real problems which have been acknowledged by the JD dealers. Not sure what the issues were but are they are tractor to look at buying or are they still a bit of a liability?

cheers

seem To remember the earlier ones having back end issues, many locally were recalled for an upgrade. They’re a good tractor but they will not pull like a magnum

Very much luck of the draw with any 7R I used to drive one which was constant problems of every type but then the replacement was flawless and doing more work than the first. I would definitley have one but would get rid when the warranty runs out.

Our 7310r is a really good all rounder , it’s got bags of power but it’s still not to big to use on a cart or for some lighter work but it has had it fair share of problems .

Hi,
Yes I like the size of the tractor. How many and what sort of problems did you have? Would you have another?

We had a 7280r which at 1250 hours had to have a new autopower gearbox. A friend had a 7230r which spent more time at the dealers than in his yard. It had various issues again with the autopower gearbox, brakes and hydraulics. Some electrical issues as well. Eventually a deal was done involving JD to remove it.
I wouldn’t go near a 7r because of both of the above instances. Even if it’s warrantied it gets really inconvenient when it breaks.
