JD Starter Motor

Any tips for undoing the bottom mounting nut on a JD6400 starter. Seems very tight, do I need to make a special tool

Think you need to butcher a ring spanner and weld it to an extension bar.. personally only done 3050 and they are awkward too.

Gotcha, good thinking. An extension bar long enough to reach the other end of the motor with the 14mm ring(about 2" in length) welded on at right angles.

It may well be 9/16" actually.
On 3050 there is "just" enough room to get a good quality, fine toothed ratchet combi spanner in, and get the nut off 1 click at a time, if memory serves...

Crows foot spanner on 3/8 socket set do it?
Replace starter with a better iskra/mahle one. As well as spinning it over faster they are a smaller body so will be easy to fit and remove another day if needed.

9/16" spanner modified as above, it's a 3/8" UNC nut.

is that a 6210S, SE or R?

S and SE are a 2 bolt fixing starter, not sure about an R yet.

It is one of yours sent over a few months ago. Only just got round to putting it on!

That solenoid bolted to the end of the starter wont fit the same but you should be able to take one of the long bolts out of the new starter and use that to hold it on.

Old Ford starters used to be like that,that bolt never got replaced on most of them.
