Jeremy Clarksons new TV show

Why are so many people so cynical about this, as in making money from the show? You seriously can’t believe that any of the other farming families on these shows don’t get paid?
I think it’s just a pity it’s not on the mainstream channels to get to a much bigger audience, it would get over the complexity of what we do far better than the bunny hugging shows.
I hope the young tractor lad makes a fortune out of it !

Brilliant TV….Clarkson plays the sucker excellently…..
Caleb etc are Born naturals…..not the least bit over awed by Clarkson‘s super star status…..
Strutts guy ……absolute spot on Land Agent……we have all met one that is identical…
Hugely impressed with the NFU’s response when JC was unable to hitch up his machine….
Could well see NFU membership doubling if that was the response to a call for help.
And how did Hans Porksen land the order for a couple of Tups?
All in All….
Best to remember Amazon is in business to make money……

Just curious, there must be some people from the Cotswolds on here. Can any of you understand what the Stone Waller was saying? Is that a scripted joke and put on, or genuine old timer local accent? I remember some local old folks in Lancashire used to have some pretty thick accents, but these days it is getting quite rare for them to quite so broad.

We farm 5 miles from Clarkson, that's the way Gerald is, plenty of stories about the local area and always off on a tangent.

I've only watched 2 episodes so far but they all come across as they do in person. It might be TV but it's fairly realistic 🤣

Yet they're the tossers who turn up here to their second homes and cause chaos by clogging up our little town to go the the 'wonderful' pub that caters exclusively to their sort, ironically its the place where This Country is filmed.
Not wrong, same here on the outskirts of Ciren, ignorant, selfish, they think the whole world revolves around them and they bring their filthy little habits with them, no time whatsoever for them.

Some of it but not all, accents, well the really strong ones seem to change from village to village, we had an old boy called Podge in our local, took me several years to understand what he was saying, once I'd mastered it he went and died of old age! Didnt help that he had a 35yr old filly on the go and was popping blue pills like tic tacs

As a townie I found Clarkson's show to be utterly enlightening on the whole farming scene. Its a compelling insight into all the super hard work and frustration you guys face every day. The impossible time constraints and the abject mercy that the weather places on you all. This should be compulsory viewing for all townies. My deepest respect to all you farmers out there!

For some reason they will only let me read the first paragraph, have to subscribe apparently?!

I hesitate to admit that I do subscribe to the Guardian because without it all we would have is the Telegraph, Mail, Express etc. However I was sorely tested by Ms Mangan. I thought a short note of appreciation was appropriate.

Dear Ms Mangan

You write "I would particularly like to know what farmers, who would face ruination if they acted as stupidly as the dilettante multimillionaire does here, make of this –"

I am a rare beast, a Guardian Reader of 50 years standing and farmer even longer. I rarely disagree with the Guardian. Never have I had cause to complain until today. Your piece on Clarkson’s Farm betrays a complete ignorance about real farming. There is nothing wrong with Jeremy’s tractor its a bargain at £40,000, he just needed bigger kit behind it (blame the land agent). Changing the hitch is for nothing. More times than I care to remember the tramlines go in wrong, always by the road. Everyone of Jeremy’s mistakes I have seen made on our farm by people who are not agriculturally gormless. Jeremy is not the only male who can’t use a hammer almost all boys are bought up today with zero practical skills. What this program has exposed is not Jeremy’s naivety but metropolitan agricultural illiteracy, they who now seek to control every aspect of farming, of which they know nothing. I genuinely fear for my sons and grandsons who work way too hard just to break even and who like Jeremy care for their farm, care their stock, care for their environment. Your piece is a sad, sad, miserable reflection of the gulf that lays between town and country.

Regards Etc.

Well done. Please let us know if they give you the courtesy of a personal reply.

As an aside, is Lucy Mangan any relation to the comedian, Steven?

Watched first two last night and loved it - Clarksons face whilst talking to the stone waller - priceless :giggle:
I was feeling his pain, knocking in the posts by hand, I put off my garden fence for about a year as I had to do it by hand (couldn't get the tractor in), then when I finally got round to doing it, it was actually easy!

Whole lot .
Farm manager had a sit down with him?
Shocked he had Good spec and price wheat?
40p a day Clarkson stated for all that?
Don't give up the day job!
not really shocking given how sh!t arable farmers had it last year? how many made a profit excluding subsidy? he still picked up 84K to add to his £144, plus enviromental schemes ect
