Jeremy Clarksons new TV show

It also didn’t as far as I could tell include any costs related to the building of the farm shop new sheds environmental projects and the initial purchase costs of all the machinery. There’s probably many costs to include like insurance and Cheerful Charlie‘s fees.
I like Jeza and really enjoyed the programs immensely.
Jeza can kinda play at farming as it’s not life or death to him as he’s a pretty wealthy guy in his own right so he doesn’t have the weight of the financial pressures many farmers face day in day out .
Roll on the next series 👍

Remember that’s not his business accounts. That’s just a crop budget. Gross margin, less inputs and stubble to stubble costs.

I think to break even first year he’s done none to bad , most new business don’t do much first year .

That £144 margin doesn't include overheads such as return on the £10,000.000 of capital and things like insurance, and electricity etc - but then you knew that.....
But its fairly obvious that he has got the farming bug and is likely to continue to supply the public with food in it's various guises and that is how this government sees UK agriculture: Something to be taken advantage of by the rest of society....Get the lube out and carry on enjoying the lifestyle if your pot is big enough.

one question that has been raised, is are we going to see a raise in land prices as "richkids" from the city buy up farms to start living the "good life" after watching this

Been like that in Southern England for a long time. Most of those farms would be contract farmed by the neighbouring "proper" farmers, rather than actually farmed by the new owners.

Long interview with Mr Clarkson in today’s Times

I get the impression from it that it was something to do for the last 18 months and I strongly suspect that there will be little “hands on” input in the future.

And to make it worse, he admits to being friends with Cameron.

In fairness, and even though I love farming, given the choice of being full time farming or travelling round the world cocking about with expensive toys while being paid big money for it, I wouldn't need to think for long!

I’ll slightly change this for you

It been like that for hundreds of years on the cotswolds, the rich buy farms and estates for the fun of it. You just have to learn to work with them just like the contractors and firms do in the program. The don't want to do the work (and who can blame them), but do want to tell people that they are lambing, combining or drilling. Learn to work with them and there is a real future for young people.
