Certainly is
Great for checking crops and stock
30 mile range to a charge
Gets some exercise too, as it’s pedal assistance

Of course

Anyone is free to use a public ROW across my property, with pleasure

On foot
On a horse
On a cycle
On a motorcycle
In a 4wd

On the correct classification of carriageway naturally
So its "your" property do you own it or rent it from someone who "owns"
I dont think anyone is claiming that people cant use ROWs its freedom to roam that is wrong.
I allow people to walk round the grass strips round our crops and am happy for them to do it, however I'm not happy about them.to be given the right to wander where they like

The 'Right to Roam' is not open access to anywhere in Scotland it is a right to responsible access. Not as scary as you think and the issue is largely how close to a population centre you live. Most people will want to stay next to a path or track, they should not be in a growing crop such as silage fields nor in your garden, sheds or yard. They must not damage with 4wd,horses etc.
We have 12 houses round our boundaries but most want to walk up the tarred lane which is quiet or ask if they can ride a pony along a farm track. I explain the limits and they keep to that.
If I saw anyone elsewhere I would speak to them, partly for their safety and to show that they will be spotted.

I’d say the lack of country side code education almost kids is by where it all starts , meeting more and more folk without a clue had a bunch of lads parked in a gateways as they were off for a walk my 200 hungry eees in snow didn’t see the funny side. Schools are where common sense is needed a d then it will filter through the system

Surprised @Clive hasn't popped in with his line
If you take the publics money you should allow complete access!

It's not that black and white for me

We are very urban fringe and have lots of paths and walkers using them, this is fine and as it should be but I am quite pee'd off right now that some paths have become 15m wide with the volume of traffic that covid seems to have encouraged, it will cause significant crop loss here ....... that is not on and neither is the creation of new paths we have where no path exists........

I will not get wound up about it though, there are bigger issues in the world and there is nothing I can do about it and despite being annoyed I can sympathise with people in lockdown confined to very small spaces unlike us lucky farmers and understand why they want to get out and walk. Can you honestly imagine living in a small semi or flat with hardly any outdoor space right now under current restrictions ? and appreciate how lucky we all really are and just how mentally and physically important it is for people to be able to take that walk !

In short I am all for public access to the land they subsidise BUT I am not all for the lack of respect that some are showing for the livelihoods of those that derive there living from the land

Like all thinks in life there is a sensible balance ! that balance is NOT to try stop the public enjoying the countryside but it should demand respect for crops / livestock and privacy etc

Trouble is you have to cater for the lowest common denominator, whether it be walkers, off roaders, detectorists or whoever, as there is a not so small minority who don't care and if given an inch will take a mile.

Sadly we can not do that without asking to close al paths and ban everyone ....... that's just not going to happen is it

Best we can do is put up signs etc asking for some respect - we should be aiming to turn this new found connection some have found to the countryside to our advantage really !!

We should but it won't happen.

The GP think its their right.

Example tanker driver leaves his trailer in a layby while he collects milk.
Comes back. Someone has park so he can't hook up.
They either have gone for a walk or He asks them politely to move.
They refuse point blank.
So he parks so they can't move. They come and ask him to move. He says he can't as he is on legally required tacho break.

This is the type of visitors to the countryside you get!
Awkward to the enth degree!

what's the solution ?

In my opinion its Education and not Confrontation

get some (friendly) signs up, Im sure people walking on my wheat have no idea that they are damaging a crop, they probably just think its grass and that's fine to walk on right ??

shouting at people rarely works, teaching them something new is often appreciated however

off course there will always be the idiots that do not care and will never learn etc but we just have to accept that, there is nothing we can do, you can not reason with unreasonable people !

I just found some ramblers wandering around our place. Our own little place is only 40 acres and half of that is under water, but I noticed madam in her bright red puffa jacket from a mile away." We just came to look at the floods" so they invited themselves in and walked round every field and through all the gates trying to find their way out without getting wet feet. They don't see that we don't want them bringing covid onto our place even if they think they need some exersize. Just to add, we have no footpaths or rights of way on the place.
